The number is 023200057
Let's see if anyone can work out how to use it!

I still don't see many mmsi's popping up on the profiles
It'll be good to use the group mmsi when there's a decent number of ribs out and about though, just need more ribnetters locally like gingercoastie

Mmsi
I remember mentioning MMSI's and a log some months ago and got somewhat Poo Poo'ed.
Why hasn't John had the same treatment.
A MMSI Database would be an excellent idea.

SO how does this group think work?
Do I have to tell my DSC unit (Icom DSC-100) to look out for calls to this group number? If so can someone walk me through how I set this on a DSC-100.
Or do I need to register somewhere that I would like to be part of the Ribnet MMSI group, then any calls to the Ribnet number are automatically passed on to my individual MMSI number (though when writing this down, don't actually see how it could work!).
Thanks
David

What sort of radio have you got?
There will be an item in the menu called "Group" or "Group MMSI" or similar, and it will most likely work in a similar fashion to the directory. The main difference is that you can only enter one group number.
If you enter the RibNet Group MMSI, any DSC calls sent to that group while you're in range will get to you.
You can only have one Group MMSI in the radio at any one time.
HTH.

DSC unit is an ICOM DS-100, VHF is Icom M401.
Can't see where to enter "I'm a member of this group" into the DS-100.
Where's Jon Brooks when you need him?

<Irony>
Read the F****** Manual, why didn't I think of that
<Irony>
This bit tells you how to add a group ID to your list of groups which I had assumed was a list of numbers YOU CAN CALL, rather like an mobile phone address book.
Quote:
Add a group ID
Push [∫]/[√] several times to
select ‘Add a group ID’, then
push [ENT].
Push numeral keys to input
an address ID code, then
push [ENT].
• When a wrong number is input,
push [CLR], then correct the
number again.
Enter the desired name for the ID code, then push [ENT].
• Push [A/a] several times to toggle capital letters, small letters and
numerals.
• Push the corresponding key one or more times to input the desired
character.
• Push [BS] to erase the character.
• Push [Ω] to reverse the cursor position; [≈] or forward the cursor
position.
Push [CLR] to exit the screen.
|
Are you saying that your set becomes a member of all the groups you add to this "address book". The manual isn't clear on this point.
I know. I've read it.
David

Rads
Yes to become a member of a group you need to add the group mmsi number in the "add an ID" section.
Once you have done this your radio will react to anyone "paging" that group.
Hope that makes sense now.
