ribtec 655 and optimax

looking at 2nd hand older (British built 655). It has a mercury optimax 200 on the back. Good history etc. From what I understand however most were delivered with 150 on the back. As I have had four stroke to date (excellent yamaha 115) apart from marked increase in fuel consumption should I have any other concerns. Advice comments gratefully recieved.

Not the fastest hulls around but comfortable when its choppy and secure feeling. 150 hp gave 45 mph.

It will be quick with 200 hp. Is this one of the ex camel boats, if so hull okay, wiring and fitting out was questionable to put it politely.

Fkkn things Camels !

The Ribtec is a well made hull moulding was by Trio and tubes usually by Henshaws. Opt's arew great engines but painful if they break down so check the service history. I do not much the high speed ride of a Ribtec but they are good boats How old is the rig

Had a 655 with a 200 carb Mecury. Did 47 knots flat out on a dead flat sea. Would not go much above 35 knots unladen without alot of chine walking, but that was mainly due I think to the fact it was a hull designed for an inboard so the tubes were well clear of the water when running (about 10"). The outboard hulls sit deeper in the water so the tubes will stop the chine walking. Excellent package, well built hulls and a good size deck space.
