Hi all
Still waiting on my clamps to arrive[emoji20], so decided to start to fill in the holes in the transom, bit of pain getting it all layered up need come thickened resin to fill the gaps in the ply inserts and 15 fibreglass inserts few swear words managed to get in done fingers crossed it's done well enough. Still going to put 2 layers over it all when the rest of the holes are filled and it hides the black marker pen I used[emoji1751]
Cheers Kevin

Hi all
Away for the week for the October break and thinking about the next stage of my build the stringers. I have been looking at different rib designs and saw a thread on this site about a build of a ribcraft called maverick and noticed there knees connecting the stringers to the transom but a triangle box section in the middle of the transom. I like the look of this and would like to copy it but not sure how it goes together.
Does any have an idea of how ribcraft do the transom supports are made?
Thank you for the help
Cheers Kevin

Managed to get the new ply on to the transom, I put plenty of resin on as it came out the sides fingers crossed it holds. Wasn't looking forward to this job but am pleased I've done it

Got all the the transom sanded and rounded the edges ready to start the tabbing. Would you recommend to start with a tab 150mm wide and then next do one 250 mm wide to tie it all together. Hope this sounds about right.
Cheers Kevin

Hi all
Got the transom all tabbed and sealed in and trying to miss the rain today. Pleased with the outcome of the fibreglassing and this I think is the start of rebuilding stage now. Over the moon.
Cheers Kevin

Hi whiskeylee
I'm knot sure what way go you about it. I was going to replace them like a normal way you would do it, but I saw some pictures of newer ribs getting built with a stainless steel bracket bolting the floor and transom together might be a better way to hold a 300hp outboard. Will need to think about it over the weekend as I would like to start the stringers on Monday.
Cheers Kevin

Hi beamishken
Yes I'm working outside at the moment on the driveway with a tarpaulin make shift tent over in to keep the boat and me dry. I do have indoor storage for the boat but it's a bit of a trek and no power. I feel like I'm getting somewhere, hope I'm doing it right[emoji848].
Cheers Kevin

Looking good so far [emoji106] just need to be carefull as the weather deteriorates into winter, resin doesnt like damp conditions & the cold. Doing well for working outside good job! Try & keep the rolls of glass somewhere dry & warmer if possible.

Hi beamishken
I keep all the stuff in the garage which is dry. I think my days are numbered before the weather turn crappy. What temp can you apply resin in.
Cheers Kevin

Whilst the hull is stripped out you have the golden opportunity to strengthen the hull, transom and knees, you are converting from a heavy low slung inboard/outdrive to a 25 inch mounted heavy 300hp outboard. Ribeye hulls of that vintage would have been designed for 2 stroke outboards or like your set up (inboard engine)
What ever you decide to do it needs to be done so you don't have to revisit the structure once the deck is on and you have rigged the Rib.
visit or speak to know boat/Rib builders to absorb their knowledge
All the best

Iirc a data sheet will say about 15° ish but you can get away with less, it just takes longer to cure. h
Having the resin tin somewhere warm before mixing helps the curing process start & once started it creates its own heat as it cures (up to a point). Moisture is the enemy as any dampness on the job will prevent it curing altogether. Avoid condensation/dew sitting on the job, if in doubt go over the layup area with a heat gun prior or leave a fan heater pointing at it before you start.
Just noticed your in Scotland whereabouts are you?

Hi beamishken
I stay in Edinburgh for my sins. Will be moving the rib to undercover storage soon as weather gets crap. Will need to get a generator to get power in the storage.
Cheers Kevin
