I think we have to remember that unless you are manufacturing Tubes and other similar items on an industrial scale, like for example Henshaws, the margins involved do not cater for fancy premises and teams of non-productive(in basic accounting terms) sales/customer service representatives being available to answer the phone.
You make your choice of supplier based on the parameters that are important to you and manage the situation.
Having of course done plenty of homework on the different companies you've asked to quote, as it's not an insignificant amount you are spending.
Ed is a small business, and the leap up to the next scale which would enable him to employ non-productive staff is a huge one.
