Ribtube.co.uk/Demon Ribs Advice

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience of Demon/ribtube.co.uk/Ed? We've been waiting for a set of tubes for months now; he's promised calls, emails, etc and nothing. If I call from my mobile he doesn't pick up. When I have called off the landline I've been made promises of a call for arranging delivery etc...

I have asked if the job might not be important enough for him and if thats the case, just be honest and let me know. So is this standard for for him and does anyone have any recommendations for replacement zodiac rail tubes?

Have you paid anything yet?
Did you give any time period that you needed them by - i.e time critical?

Nothing paid as yet. Explained it’s critical and keep getting flaky responses.

I’ll keep that in mind, cheers. It’s a real paid as he’s said the materials are cut, but I find that hard to believe tbh.

All I can say is that you’ve got more patience than me.

Tricky question. A search on here for "Ed Carter" "Olmec" and "Ribraff" might help with an answer...

I’ve dealt with Ed. Bought a few things off him too, no problem. I did consider him for a retube too but he was quite busy and I wanted a local company in case of warranty concerns.

Absolutely recommend naz at venture marine. They guy is an artist. He did my tubes On two boats. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Ed is in Facebook. Message him. Be upfront and say you might go elsewhere due to timescales. London boat show used to be a panic at this time of year.

Hello, I appear to be having a very similar issue as you with Demon Ribs/Ribtube. I sent old Zodiac tubes to him in April to be remade and was assured they'd be ready in 5 weeks and promised photos/dispatch dates. Correspondence was very good around this time, however, the last 6 weeks I have heard nothing! I am calling every day and trying social media etc - still nothing! Just wondering if you ever got through or got it resolved? any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks

I gave up and sent a message to which he read and never replied. Spoke to a few friends/colleagues in marine and it’s either great tubes or nothing at all. This was after nearly a year if I remember correctly.

We’re with Tidel at the moment and the tubes should be due soon with an overall lead time of about 6 months. Fingers crossed for both of us but don’t hold your breath!

Have no experience of them, but I would suggest now is the time to go get your tubes back and find someone that can be honest and transparent with completion dates, and who will answer your calls/emails.

Yes, I know a lot of people are busy but they should be upfront about it. I'm guessing your tubes are languishing in a corner of their workshop gathering dust as they have more high value work to do. No excuse though.

I didn’t want to be the one to directly say that… but yeah. Their instagram has been a treasure though accidentally posting group chats within and deleting soon after.

Hi John,

Sounds like the same experience we had, frustrating with lack of communication throughout tube re-build, even with regular chasing! However, we did receive our tubes in early summer (later than we were expecting but glad to receive them eventually!).
The new tubes were well built and look great, just a pity with poor communication.
I hope this eases any concerns and hope you get them in time for summer!

Thanks for your reply,
I went to see Ed last week, met him in the yard working hard. He is a gentleman and does not want to let anyone down, but working under a lot of pressure with clients calling him. He has a great workshop and the work I saw looked very impressive. Ed's biggest problem is communication ( going to ground ) and managing clients expections on timing. I am looking forward to getting my rib shortly.
regards
John
