Rival to rib.net????

Email from rib international recieved yesterday:

RIB INTERNATIONAL are thrilled to announce the launch of an exciting new feature wholly dedicated to the RIB market. For the first time, RIB users have their own online network; RIBLife provides a central visual RIB community - the centre of attention being the RIBs themselves!

Users set up their own profile page, uploading images and text, ideal not only for individuals, but also racing or expedition teams, clubs, events, etc. RIBlife is a super forum for finding cruising partners, as you can search for RIB users in your area. Or, if you're a skipper looking for crew, RIBlife is an ideal resource for making marine contacts.

The service has just been launched so we need as many RIB people as possible to jump aboard to make this feature a success, as the more people involved the better it gets!!

Plus, it's free to private users!

They obviously aren't letting the truth get in the way of a good bit of advertising puff!

From riblife:
Due to the dangers to children associated with online chatting, users must be 18 years or over.

It is recommended that at no time should female members agree to meet with another member without company. Any meetings should be in company and in a public place.
Just what sort of people are they expecting?! Perhaps they should rename it lowlife.

I'm sure it will be an outstanding success.

Believe me, that has been discussed before!

I am surprised about one thing - Riblife is free? Highly unusual for anything related to Rib International not to cost a fortune!

Why publish a totally untrue statement?

(The logo & colour seem to be a direct 'splash' of RIBnet also. )

Surely there is plenty of room in cyberspace, especially for original ideas.

If derived from someone else's idea then acknowledgement at the very least is good form?

I received an email publishing this "The first online network community for RIB users". I emailed them back to say hadn't they heard about RIBnet, and this is what they said ...

"Dear Mr. Beach

Thank you for your email response. You misunderstand. This is not a forum, it's a 'network community', this is the phrase readily used by internet users to describe a network whereby individuals can have their own profile page. RIBnet do what they do very well, this is a feature which no other marine site is doing, it is nothing like RIBnet and is not meant to be.

Thanks
RIB International
"

So, does this mean RIBnet is NOT a "community" but a mere 'forum' - oh how common - JK take note!!

I'll be sticking to what I know, 'community' or not - after all, even RIB International acknowledge we do what we do very well!!

Andy

Surely not?

But that'd mean This is not a forum, it's a 'network community', this is the phrase readily used by internet users to describe a network whereby individuals can have their own profile page. JK has been decieving us all this time

I know, just what I thought!!

To be a bit more objective, on the RIB International site you do have your own galleries and blogs on your 'profile page' but nothing that can't be found in the pages of RIBnet.

Let's stick to what we do best!

Andy

If it wasn't so pathetic I might get annoyed by this clueless drivel. What is RIBnet if not a "network community"? Anyway, the internet's a big place and there's plenty of room for everyone.

Shame on you AndyB007 for being so silly as to misunderstand. Foolish boy!

"Not a forum, but a network community."

Wow, do I ever feel common! Only yesterday I was feeling top-shelf, enjoying my pre-owned (not used) inflatable craft (not boat) that I transported (not drove) to the waterfront (not riverbank) with my automobile (not pickup truck). Then this morning I discover that I've spent the last 3 years on this forum (not network community) and my bubble has now been burst!
