RMYC Race 18/19 June
Just to give a few details of the Royal Motor Yacht Clubs race as it should be a really good event. Also for a very good cause as it collects for Cancer Charities.
The race this year is being run as the Annie Wallbank Memorial Race. Annie was hugely resepcted in powerboating and did so much for the sport - a great loss.
The event is on the 18th / 19th - with the pits being based on Poole Quay on the Saturday. Racing on the Sunday at 12:00 - with classes for Marathon, V24, class 3 and RIBs & Sportsboats.
Certainly some interesting boats and a number of RIBs racing.

Hi Adam - I've called it the Annie Beakhust on our website and Facebook Page - is this wrong then?

Well done to those who finished!
Out of interest - Can anyone explain how the boats in positions 5, 6 and 7 were recorded as doing just 5 laps, but are not that much shorter in their distances covered?

An easy answer for once!
The last "A" lap was that short!

A very good event and always nice to race at Poole.
Good mixture of boats and crews - hopefully the start of increased numbers in races again.
From my side - actually really enjoyed my return to racing - could have done with a few more weeks preparation. But the Technohull went pretty well for its first outing - lots of over-heat problems and constant alarms ringing, 6 complete shut-downs. Without all that would have been quicker and higher up the results.
Still plenty of potential / work to be done. Next race for us will be Cowes.

Really enjoyed it - good to be back racing again. Some good up and close racing too.
Was pretty jealous of your cockpit / screen when the rain squall came! How was your visability?
Anyway- looking forward to the Cowes race next, most probably the only other race I can do this year.
Hopefully for you guys all will be sorted out to run in the Marathon race! A bit too much work to make my boat eligable to run Marathon so just the CPC for us unfortunately.

It rained? Seriously we had great visibility for the whole race - the very fine stuff clung on a bit in the slower bits but didn't cause us a problem at all.
Cowes is the next race for us, but we will be taking the boat down to the race down in Charlestown which is dedicated to Ian Stirling as we named the BananaShark 34 after him - looking forward to that!
Still trying to make our boat eligible for E class - it with the UIM at the moment as no-one will take responsibility in the whole of the RYA!

Just to wrap up the 2011 season from the RMYC we would like to thank all the competitors, safety boats and officials for making the Annie Beakhust Memorial race a great success. Last night we held our helpers reception at the club, we presented our safety boats with an engraved glass to commemorate the event, £2,000 of donations have already been sent direct to Cancer Research, last night we were able to present the local MacMillan Cancer Support with cheques for a total of £6,202.67. On behalf of the Motorboat committee at the club can I forward our thanks to you all, as some of you may be aware Rob Beakhust is not well at this time, but it was Rob’s wish that most of the money from this event should go to MacMillan who helped Annie in the last few weeks of her life.
Once again thank you all for your support and generosity we look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
