RYA suspend training company following the eight hour rescue . A shame for one of our local companies but maybe it was just a bad call on the day
Mmmm! I don't think I would ever book a sail training holiday with a company called Hot Liquid. It all sounds a bit too 'Gung Ho' for me.

It seems to me there are more and more sailing boats needing to be rescued in strong winds because 'their engine failed'. Surely, if there's wind they can sail. Or are modern sailing yachts so badly designed that they are incapable of standing up to their canvas? If it was really blowing F11, they were obviously in relatively sheltered waters, so why weren't they sailing? I can only think that the boat couldn't, which to my mind makes the thing not fit for purpose.

I'm not sure Dover straights is sheltered in a south westerly f10!

Not somewhere I would want to be in any ship, let alone a 40 ft yacht! Dover port was closed at the time of the incident so they obviously ought it wasn't that great out there

Do you realise that a Force 11 is categoried as a violent storm with an average wind speed of 60 knots (69 mph) which will produces 4 times (yes 4 times - it is a square relationship) the force on a sail than that produced by a Force 7

This a RNLI video of the rescue

not sure it really was force 11 or indeed 9 but wind over tide with SW force 9, damaged boat, sea sick crew, no safe port of refuge anywhere close.... not nice at all!
