hi jsp,
If this helps, i assume the RNLI medical test is the ML5 test for merchant seamen. I have passed this test and i have had 2 heart valve replacements. As long as you are phsically fit and have permission from your GP/specialist i think you will be fine.

Hi
The RNLI requires you to pass their own Medical Examination by an RNLI approved Doc and an RNLI Fitness Test carried out by an RNLI assessor.

I'd love to - maybe age would be a problem being only 18
|
why? daughter joined as l/boat crew at 17, awlb navigator at 18, while at university. Then left uk for a couple of years to skipper a 50ft twin jet drive fast catamaran in holland and sailed there with the KNRM (dutch l/b service)on one of their 62ft twin 1k hp jet drive ribs. Now back, but elsewhere, in the uk with her boat and sailing with a uk lifeboat. But her dad is still here as a member of a very busy coastguard rescue team for nigh on 30 years, 3 jobs last sunday-one sorted from our ribs cos we were there on scene already, but the others going on to the early hours-again!

Not quite the same but am involved in Lifeguard work volunteer and commercial and been doing it since 16 years old. Volunteers in any organisation are hard to come by but all those that do give a huge amount to the organisations and get a great sense of acheivement out of it.
So go for it Coastguard , Lifeboat, Lifeguard or what ever you will get a lot from it.
Cheers Tim
