Rough valuation

Hello, I have a 2004 Johnson 140 Hp outboard on the back of a north craft 6.2m inflatable. It's a dive club rib and we no longer use it enough to justify keeping it.

I think the engine has around 600 hrs on it

The boat would be classed as a project boat, in poor condition but the tubes hold air. We spent approx £600 on the engine during the summer and have not used it since.

How much would u reckon it's worth?

It would make a good project for someone.

Probably less than you think / hope!

With projects I would be inclined to put it on eBay.

Is the engine 2 or 4 stroke and is it in good running order?

presumably you have a trailer?

I'd be inclined to split the package.

Assuming the Johnson is a 2-stroke V4, then you'd probably see up to £1,200, depending on condition. The recent work all helps. Mid-sized 2-strokes up to 90hp command a better premium, especially in Yamaha guise.

Bill Higham is expensive for his used outboards, but gives you some indication of prices. Used Outboard Motors for Sale | Used |Second Hand | Outboards | UK

Seamark Nunn have a good selection too: http://www.seamarknunn.co.uk/download/usedob/used.pdf

The boat and (assuming there's a trailer too) can be sold as project. Price-wise will depend just how much of a project we're talking about. A re-tube for a 6.2m boat will probably be in the region of £6k+. If the tubes still hold air, but could benefit from new wear patches and a general tidy, then there's money in that too. If the deck is goosed and soggy, then you're looking under £500.

This is quite a good site to sell the RIB: Ribs inflatables for sale - FAFB or indeed Ebay.

If you go onto ebay and select "completed listings" you'll see what prices things actually sold for (if they sold at all).......Always worth a look before you bid on anything too.

I was going on the £1k per metre rule of thumb! Means you can use the other £1,500 for diamond tread patches, grab handles, reinforced rubbing strake, fixtures for paddles, etc.

Cheers for the update Paul.
