I don't have any access to the decision making process but I think it's fair to say that the race organisers has to take into consideration all of the factors which I'm sure include safety and logistics for all of the competitors.
As far as the logistics are concerned, the Troon stop gives us a more even spread of distances which may be a happy by product but it means we have to carry a smaller maximum amount of fuel.

Personally I think the change from Camplebtown to Troon can only be good for the event has the potential if organised right to bring a lot more people to see the boats hopefully generate more media attention which could then result in a lot more people going to see the boats at Edinburgh/Leith and surely this will mean happy sponsors of event and team which is what everyone needs to make these things happen.

haha it can't not help thats for sure but from a personal point of view business aside I have over the years raced all over UK and Europe on quads, car circuit racing and rallying I have also helped in organising events and i know how difficult it is to get and keep sponsors for both competitors and organisers so a more accesible location which will attract more spectators is going to work out best for everyone.
I know the die hard fans who would travel to see the event where ever it is don't always see it this way but it is unfortunately what all sports need to survive.

Ye I know I take all your well made points especially as it will be easier for me from Girvan. But I do feel they cutting out a large part of the West which as you know is our prime boating area, as I know as I keep my rib at Tayvallich. I just thought a stop over some where like Oban after Troon might have been good business and promotion. I'll still go but I still think the organisers have got their stops all wrong in Scotland.

Troon to Lochalsh is 184nm and Lochalsh to Thurso is 140nm so the split isn't too bad - don't forget there are many reasons for picking venues, I believe Thurso has always been the hinge point of the event as they wanted to get the whole fleet through the Northeast point of the course together at slack water for safety reasons, apparently it gets a bit choppy up there?

Sorry John it sounds as if I'm being picky,honestly I'm not. I know they be good safety, seamanship reasons for the stops. I am just biased re the West as it is the prime boating area of Scotland.

It would be great to visit all of the prime boating areas of the UK, but it's a race! We may be a bit too offshore to see all of the UK, but I'm sure we'll get to see a fair bit of it if we have time to look but I do expect to be a bit busy!
We are looking forward to seeing lots of new places and meeting lots of new people on the way round - Everyone is welcome to come and say hi if you're in the area!

Hull ain't the best place either. Not looked at where you'll be heading for but if it's the same place as when we did it then try to get there with tide to spare.
If you cant lock in the marina the overnight on the waiting pontoons are not good

What is the feeling now that the race has been pushed out to 2014, do you think it will still go ahead ?
Don't want to build a racehorse and then have to use it for pony rides.

Very good question - The reason for the postponement was that a large number of people backed out at the last minute, if the reasons for that are addressed I believe it could go ahead. If I was building a boat (and I did) I would build it for the 2013 Cowes Monte Carlo Venture Cup and enter that - they are promising a race every 2 years and they will have the same classes and the Round Britain race.
