Am I right in understanding that you'd never met before and only communicated via the forum up to the decision to "do it"? My over cautious nature means I'd spend more time worrying about what if Jurgen had 4 heads, ate ginger Englishmen for breakfast. Or what if he likes to cruise at WOT and you prefer to be at 2100 revs etc. Did that sort of thing worry you before taking the plunge?

I can think of nothing worse than being trapped on a small boat with someone who you can't stand to be with!

Clearly it worked for you - just curious how much you stressed about this and anything you did to make sure you were compatible.

Nope, we had never met, however we were going to go Round Ireland together in his searider in 2013 but I couldn't go in the end

Was I worried that he was called the Mad German and had a reputation for driving his boat like he had just stolen it? a bit I suppose, but at the end of the day I was going to have to trust him with my life and he was going to have to trust me with his. It was a fair trade

Trevor G knew the both of us well and we both trust him

Day 2... Morning!!! We woke up to brilliant sunshine, I had never seen a Targa before but the rear deck was comfy to sleep on

We had breakfast at a cafe in the marina and the man there was possibly the most grumpiest man in plymouth? Good breakfast though

I'm not sure what happened to the RIB called Excalibear, but something happened to the legs and they never met up with us in the end and had to pull out before they started.

I seam to remember that they knocked the legs on some rocks???

So one boat down by day two

Midway through day 2 we have our own problems, we are using too much fuel we are sitting way to low in the water compared to into the Red (the other 7m vipermax)...

Our hull is full of water and there's no way to pump it out....

There is no other choice but to carry on to the Isles of scilly and find a pump that will fit through the inspection hatch...

The boat is still performing well though and I know this hull inside out and back to front. I'm sure I know what the problem is...

You really made me laugh now
but indeed - Alex and I never met before the RB .
The very first contact I had with him due to the Macmillan cancer project . I flew from Kiev to Berlin , put the Barrus tanks for the project into the G wagon , drove to Rotterdam and took the ferry to Hull , went to Blackpool to buy Black Hawk , met on the way back to Hull with M.Witham to ask a couple of questions about the boat and gave him the tanks .
One day the tanks found their way from Preston to Alex .
Then - in 2013 I went to Milford Haven with my Searider to go round Ireland . What a great trip !
Here I met first time with Trev who participated with Ric with their 4.7 which performed extremely well !
Actually I did not intend to go round Britain - simply because of the high cost but when I changed my mind it was Trev who told me that he knows "somebody" who would be interested too = Alex . He knew me a little bit and thought it might be worth to try
Then the only chance we had was to communicate via Skype .
I was in Kiev , Black Hawk in Germany and Alex in the UK ..
At Biff´s place - who as the heart absolutely on the right spot (!!!) - we all met very first time .
We threw all our gear onto the grass and started to select what to take with us - and what not .
I had a bit of experience from the RI but it was great to hear Biff´s advice too !
I was also very pleased to meet at Biff´s place with a few members who I knew only from PM conversations !
Anyway - back to Alex and me - I think we both contributed very well to the success of the circumnavigation !
Sometimes you look at things a bit different as the owner of the boat but we always managed well and I have to admit that I am quite sensitive to details .
I think the biggest issue we had - and this we found out very quickly - we BOTH are snoring very loudly
Even this problem we managed very well - we just tried to keep enough distance between each other in the evening .
Was not really hard cause I slept usually on deck of Black Hawk and Alex elsewhere - or - we just went with our sleeping bags into different directions in the evening .
Cannot remember when I slept so many nights under the open sky but I enjoyed a lot !
Even the Scottish mosquito´s - some here tried to scare me before - could not really bother me !
To summarize after being back in Southampton we separated - after being for almost 2 weeks on a RIB , going through many different or difficult situations - as friends !
I will be definitely back to the UK with Black Hawk and would go again with pleasure for any cruise with Alex - the handy man - as crew

Some more :

one day during the trip as said "if we really make it round - I will just jump into the water !"
While most teams already left it was Srambled who reminded me my promise once we were back in SH .
So - here we go !
Alex found out that a "dry" suit not always keeps a person "dry"

The Targa's are very impressive, for there size they move well.

The sea is lovely and calm as we make our way to Wolf Rock, Southwest of Lands End...

As always the Isles of Scilly are beautiful and we make our way to the harbour at St Mary's.

Now I've already booked a twin room here, but we are both regretting that, it would have been great to sleep on the beach...

We had a great walk in the evening on Scillies Islands and came to a nice beach .
Alex :
"Hey - let's swim !
I :
"No .. The water is probably cold "
A minute silence ..
Then Alex :
"Come on - let's swim !"
I :
"No - I am not wearing swimming trunks and I have the entire budget in cash in my pocket"
Few seconds silence..
Then Alex :
"Me too .. "
Another few minutes later the crazy British & the crazy German were swimming in pants in the water - always having an eye on our cloth on the beach

So now in the harbour, everyone is fuelling up and everyone is operating like one massive team, as Jurgen bails water with half a mineral water bottle as thats the only thing that will fit through the hatch, I radio to the other teams and ask if anyone has a stirrup pump type of thing.

Sea Salt (Targa) has so Kalish brings it over to us.

We pump out the water taking it in turns and no more water is entering the hull We discuss possible problems and then find that a rear transom box has water in to...

My best guess is that a seam tape is letting water by while at speed and forcing water around the tube and into the box, once this reaches the level of the conduit that takes the cable to the console then waters getting down the conduit. Now the thing is the conduit is perforated to allow water to escape into the hull. Over two days that little trickle has slowed us down.

But there's good news, there's a bung in the bottom of the box which we can leave open and let water to drain onto the deck and if we leave the bilge pump on auto then we'll pump it out.

Jurgen has a better idea... We'll run with one trunk down... Perfect

It's Friday so there's Gig Racing

The evening is beautiful and we soak up the benefits of a Round Britain Cruise.

We have a large table booked at a local restaurant and for the first time we all dine together...

Everyone is really nice, Trevor hands out memory cards for the plotters so we all have the same info and everyone starts to get to know each other

We are also eating fry ups every morning and gaining weight fast!!!

Yep, we can't sleep near each other, not in the same room or the same boat

lets sleep rough

Ok, just looked this up, they hit a submerged object which damaged the leg and they couldn't get parts in time, gutted

Nice cabin RIB
