Had a peep and it makes sense but it still would be nice to go round. John remember 1999 the weather then was OK . The only bad bit was the North sea

True, we were very lucky with the weather that week. Even so some crews found it very hard going.

Cape Wrath was manageable, but quite challenging. I really wouldn't have wanted to be racing (or running a race) in those conditions.

I agree that it's a shame not to go right round, but I can see that it's probably a wise decision.

Perhaps they should do team relays, ribs going round the top through the ruff stuff whilst the polishing brigade take the canal.

As far as I know some of the ribs are planning to go 'over the top' wheather permitting rather than through the canal , wheather permitting.

Round Britain First Sponsor!

Nice to see that the 2008 Round Britain Race today announced its first sponsor.

From the web site - " At last a manufacturer of marine products has put their head above the parapet and decided to support the Round Britain Powerboat Race, not with money but with product. Stuart Nicholls of Marine Track in Shoreham has agreed to provide their very latest satellite linked tracking systems free of charge to ALL race boats taking part in this race. This is in effect a large sponsorship deal with Marine Track and is a significant saving for each of the teams taking part. The Round Britain Race Committee thank Marine Track for their generosity."

Hello again - my apols if you're reading this again.

I'm looking to go round Britain in August during Cows Week and would very much like a couple of boats to join us. We're not talking a big budget attempt, but big fun.

If you're interested in using August as a recce for the 2008 'big boys' race then please get in touch.

George

Good point. I check the website at least once a week. So to get the ball rolling: Who would you put your money on in each class?

I think of 'racing' as more of a 'hardboat' topic.

Looking like its on pretty thin ice right now. 50% deposits were due this week but I know of nobody that has paid due to a slight lack of clarity in the accounting process. Needs kicking into life or it may well not happen...

Sorry have just re-read my post and it comes across very negatively. It was not meant to, just aware of the problems and concerns that many are feeling. I hope it does happen and hope that the current hiccups are nothing more than a small glitch.

Update on the lengths - RIBs are allowed to be a little shorter than hard boats!

21'10" for RIBs!

Not only have a number of people paid the required amount on time, the accounting issues have been resolved and a separate account has been set up with a number of signatories - this should resolve the only issues that competitors had, as everything else is going well!

Out of interest and not wishing to be rude, what sort of budget do you guys give yourself to fund this type of event, over and above your boat, I ask this from the Jo Blogs angle funding himself and not you lucky chaps that can run it along side your boating related business:-) thanks in advance, Phil
