Round British Isles record attempt
Three seventeen year olds are currently attempting an under twenty-one record for a circumnavigation of the British Isles. That's a tough trip, and best of luck to them. Hope the weather improves!
They are called Jack, Archie and Harry and are in a 9m Ribcraft with twin 250 outboards. More details of their progress here: http://blog.mailasail.com/roundbritain

Sorry, can't get too excited about how 'tough' it is to bash around the country in a £80K Rib. Most of us would give our right arm to have to 'suffer' in such a way.

I think they are all members of the Seaview Yacht club, I used to go to Seaview when I was younger with freinds who had a flat there, nice place and lots of good sailing from what I remeber (it was 16 years ago)
Looking at their sponsors they have got some pretty good ones there. Fair play to them is what I say.
And I can't think that for one minute doing this route in any RIB that has no cabin is going to be plain sailing it will I am sure be quite tough.

Someone more cynical than me might think you're all just a little bit jealous!
What is it that bothers you so much? Is it simply the value of the RIB? Or the fact that they are young? Or that they are doing something that you'd like to do, but somehow haven't got round to?

for me I can't really see its much of a challenge, they're fit healthy young men I assume (doesn't say to the contrary on their website) and as for the RIB it's a 9 metre Ribcraft with the following mods.
"Two new fuel tanks, which are capable of holding 1100 litres of fuel
Twin 250hp Evinrude E-TEC engines, which are one of the cleanest outboard engine technologies on the market today.
A new all-weather console, which will provide more protection from the wind and spray from the waves.
The RIB is having new seats installed, so that they will have the best possible sitting position and comfort over the waves.
GPS, radar and navigation systems
Sound system "

If I wanted to do a round Britain trip (at my own expense) and could find the time, I would and might sometime. Perhaps I am being a little cynical but, I consider doing something really fun and exciting, at other peoples expense, albeit in the name of charity, not quite right. If they were walking or cycling around the country which would be a test of one's commitment perhaps, but not riding around in a rib. It's a bit like driving across Europe in a Ferrari Spyder,tiring, but not really that big a chore.

This a guy who not only runs a very successful business but does a huge amount of time consuming unpaid charity work for local kids, all without any publicity or fuss.Which i'm sure contributes far more to help less privileged people than blasting around in a huge Rib.

GBRIBChallenge, All you have here is a few jealous little people who have nothing better to do than sit in front of their computers belittling others attempts to do something productive with their interests rather than just burning fuel for the hell of it.
I sincerely hope that Archie, Jack and Harry don't get to see this although judging by what they are doing at the moment I would think they spend more time out on the water than in front of a computer.
I am sure that the vast majority of those on RibNet offer them best wishes and those that don't aren't worth bothering about anyway.

It wouldn't have happened when I was a lad we'd chop a tree down with our bare hands and paddle it all the way around UK using our bare hands (again) and when we got back the next day our dad would thrash us within an inch of our lives but eeeh by gum we was AAPPY
