Does it have to be a propper EPIRB, or will a PLB do i wonder?
These dont transmit for as long, and dont always float but they are a whole load cheaper, i paid about £200 (trade) for my FastFind 220 which is the GPS model.
I can probably still source these if a ribnetter wants one cheap. They are new and with 5 yr battery, but i have a trade a/c with McMurdo.

@ Gilles
Do not know - did not contact them (yet) I consider to get my own
@ Daniel
In the RI information they mention particular EPIRB , nothing about PLB ..

thought about this...If you aren't in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?
much to do to get to the start - would want to refit and reprep, and a fair bit of kit to buy. Under no illusion that its out of my comfort zone and a whole different proposition to a 2 hr afternoon run about,
but although I have the right boat (and the wettest one I expect),
I have every reason to talk myself out of it on cost alone.
Beats me then why I just sent off the entry form and paid the fee ;-)

admiralty charts Ireland
Hi there ,
One of the requirements of the RI 2013 is to have paper charts of Ireland .
I learned that Germany is not the best source to get these marine charts ..
Can anybody advise a source in UK or Ireland ??
Thanks in advance !
Jürgen

If Leisure charts are OK then the Imray series may be the best option - you can buy them on Ebay and from UK based chandlers. They cost about £17 each - it's gonna hurt! They're folded small and are printed on water resistant paper
You need: C61, C62, C64, C53, C54, C55, C56, C57
Look for recent publication dates - this seller seems to have 2012 publications: Linky

Hi willk,
Many thanks - will follow this up !
I was looking on ebay in the UK for charts but my mistake was that I was searching for admiralty or marine paper charts ...
Hope to see you in Killybegs in the summer

Thanks !
Seems I was a bit too fast .. just found and ordered all necessary imray charts through amazon ..
But at least another item I can "tick off" from my to do list .
The 3 remaining items are to get (or rent ?) an EPIRB , to book the channel ferry and to reserve accomodation ..

@TSM
Hugo sent at the end of last year a list of possible hotels or B&B for all the locations of the RI - that is not the problem ..
The challenge is to find accomodation in a reasonable distance to the marina .
I looked at some places but they are quite remote ..
But there´s still time and I´ll sort it out..
*thanks for land support !!!

I also checked Imray charts on ebay UK ... we re not alone, i m planning to buy them with a friend and make 1/1 copies. coz 10 charts at 22eur ...will increase a bit the budget ...and i m still looking for the epirb, but ...i will ask a confirmation to HMS.
I also received the accomodation list, some B&B's got a luxurious price, if it s not raining i will sleep on the potoon , if there s a potoon
cant wait to see you all !!!!

Price is one issue . When you check the location you will find that some B&B are miles away from the marina .
Somebody mentioned in this thread camping . I like it - I LOVE it but the irish weather might spoil the romantic evening sitting at a camp fire .. and after a full day at sea to sleep in a wet sleeping bag is also not very motivating .
As for the EPIRB I got reply from the link Hugo provided :
1 x Automatic EPIRB, fully programmed with your vessel’s MMSI, Boat Name and Port of Registry – these details would be required if you wish to proceed so we can programme the epirb accordingly.
Price each £75.00 per week to hire.
Delivery to Germany - £45.00
Delivery back to UK after the hire would be at your cost.
Prices are exclusive of UK VAT at 20%

Epirb
Today I booked the ferry and ordered an EPIRB . The price for the GME MT403G / 406MHz dropped down this week to 450,-€ or appr 375,-GBP .

Hi Bushrider
At the moment we're definitely looking to camp rather than book B&B's.
We know it's a risk with the Irish weather - but then again if there is bad weather and there is a day's delay, everyone's B&B bookings will be in the wrong place, at which point we'll be able to try and find a last minute B&B like everyone else if we want to - but at least we'll have the tent as a back-up.
Trevor
