I have read this thread with great interest, and as one who understands what PR and marketing SHOULD do against what a lot of PR/marketing practitioners actually do in lying in their quest to promulgate "the wider corporate message and concept" which apparently excuses any need for accuracy (in my experience of many dealings with people of this ilk).

My thoughts are as follow:
1)The challenge as organised my HMS was a great event and I applaud the organisation of it, and of everyone who took part - privateer or sponsored but especially the privateers.
2)I am saddened by the shameless - and even worse fabricated publicity- put out by the one team - it means that I will not consider MAZDA when I next change my car.
3) It re-inforces thr conception that all marketing /PR people are total w***kers
4)I am even more disheartened by MAZDA's apparent dismissal of TMS's contribution of the real events - taking TMS's comment as valid - see 3) above

I take my hat off to all who took part in (not competed) and organised this event and trust they do not feel their achievement has been tarnished by this PR malarkey.

To all those involved organising / taking part I raise a glass of Talisker to your drive and ambition, and that you all got round safely.

To be fair on Mazda, the press release is now gone.

Thats assuming that TMS version was as he said and not as Mazda printed?
I work with Mazda on something else and I cannot believe that someone on high sanctioned this press release with approval from TMS. The words that are written are not from a PR person but more of a self publisist. Alan P

I would like to add that our sponsor has been superb in supporting us. The matter of not seeing the final version and my edits being disregarded is not, I believe on purpose. I believe it was a miscommunication where my edited final version was not included, many of our sponsors have their own PR departments that then communicate with an additional out sourced marketing company. Somewhere along the line the final edit was not used

Once this was highlighted this week, the release has been taken down straight away as neither LS or our sponsors want to deceive or give the wrong impression with the trip. My original final edit has been resent with an amendment to bring it up to date post event / pre boat show.

I know that some may get sponsorship but surely the real heros in all this are the ones that funded themselves and especially the ones under 5m.

Trevor G and his son Rick made it round in a 1990 Searider 4.7, they did all the work on their rib themselves inc reflowing the hull and fitting console, suspension seats and outboard and rigged it all too. Now this is a real story
Absolutely
Yet again its the pumped up self publicist.. such a shame that Mazda had anything to do with this!

I say a massive well done to all the privateers and self funders who managed such a trip.Well done you lot!

Linley Swan are exclusively offering for sale this unique version of the Ribeye A600 Custom. The craft was built for the PBR circumnavigation of Ireland, an event held in July 2013 in some of the worst offshore water in recent memory, surviving the event leading the fleet and in perfect condition.
