Round island record broken

As I am sure some of you know, the round the island record was broken on Sunday by "Negotiator" a Class 1 Offshore cat (not RIB sorry!).

The new record now stands at an unbelievable 33 minutes I think and her AVERAGE speed was 111mph!!!

I saw her tank past Fort Victoria on the island and she was cruising at 90mph as I believe she was speed restricted in the solent. This must have meant she was belting along about 130mph round the back of the wight!

A few piccies attached. Negotiator passing inside the sconce buoy and the boat on its trailer in the pits.

Was that inside Sconce - as of leaving it to starboard?

We saw negotiator pass 'Bridge ' buoy out by the Needles on her way to the record. The sea conditions were flat when they passed ,as you can see from the attatched image taken just after the turn (taken on my wifes dinky digital as my main camera packed up whilst we were out there ),great timing for them as when the smaller boats came through later the sea had become a bit choppy. She sounded great as she powered off across the bay.

That is quite correct, was she not supposed to do that?! I knew all the racers had to leave it to port but was she exempt?

Have a look at the pic. You can see Sconce on the right of the image.

No everyone should have left Sconce to port.

not wanting to cause problems - but interesting how many boats were disqualified for missing bouys on the shute (which were not defined or correctly laid) and yet you can miss a mark of the course and not get disqualified if you are in a big boat!

Yes, apparently, Chris Parsonage had an independant breifing from the regular racers for his RTI record, as the QHM and Co were concerned for safety, he didn't have to do the dogleg at Elephant etc, 'just run as straight and safely as poss, with no weaving in and out of pleasure boats'.

He was also limited to 90mph within the Solent (he has a max of around 170)

Basically, he wasn't really racing anything but the clock.

thanks jackeens...I'm not thin any more though. You've been away for so long, you've missed me getting fat...I now weigh a good 32 stone and have had to buy a bigger RIB so I can stay afloat

That may not be entirely true
