Round The IOW

Knowing that the round the island race is on this weekend i thought to myself i might do that one sunny day in my rib. Looking at the tidal streams, at some pont i would be going against the tidal stream, so does anyone recommend heading east or west from cowes to start for any particular reason?

Would prefer to be going with the wind on the south side of the Island. Not too worried about the tide - what you make in one place you'll lose somewhere else.

We went clockwise as there was an easterly wind.

Just what I was thinking about the tide, and I can understand why it will be better with wind when more exposed, cheers
