Round the Isle of wight

After 25 years of boating in the solent i had never been round the island so yesterday we went round in the Hunton rib wanted to crack the hour done it in 52mins 13 secs.

Got me thinking if many other members had timed runs

We should have a top gear style leader board on here. I'd love to have a go.

Great idea.

Could work out the average speed to the max speed of boat

There the world records.

There are national records i think you can get from the RYA site

I was told the mileage is 57 therefore our average was 66 mph. Max speed of the boat on a flat day up and down southampton water the day before was 69 and 71

With abit of chop we get a couple more mph

Highly recommend having ablast round as you meet 3 types of sea conditions.

In the link I provided above the fasted around the island has an average speed of 106,73 MPH. I don't know why the time isn't given though.

went all the round (clockwise) a couple of weeks ago, cus i hadnt done it before. Didn't exactly time myself as i was having a good look at all the new scenery no it was very interesting!
pretty calm most of the way until i got to st catherines point whereupon it kicked up a bit because of the extremely strong tides that day.
would be interesting to do a timed run...
where's the official start finish line if there is one?

I'd guess the likely official start would be the RYS start line at Cowes.

We used a buoy of egypt point. Interesting about St Catherines as we stuffed it twice (done the whole of RB8 without ) Probablly backed off to much, may of gone over the top of the stange waves that occur there if we kept the speed up.

I make it 48.9nm so you must have been doing over 50 knots Average speed Cookee..

Hmmm I don't think I will beat that in my rib. Perhaps we could run some classes based on Length and HP

I think the race distance is actually a bit more than that - the fastest one we did we were hitting 70mph all the way round the South side of the island and we were within 1/2 an mph of another boat, very thrilling!
