A friend climbed around on one he was thinking of buying - on the 25' the deck space is way too small.

The biggest problem with those boats is no room.

Guys

I have just commissioned an ex USCG Safeboat. I will start a new thread soon to share experiences during the fitting.

The boat and trailer are heavy at over 6000 pounds, no problem with a toyota Hilux or Prado though. Not a very safe recreational boat as those on aft deck are prone to ejection. Better stick to the 4 seated positions and maybe 2 more standing up, inside, while under way. I made a custom bracket to install 25" outboards as the transom will only work with 30" expensive and thirsty outboards. Plus, who wants to go 50 knots everytime, right? I installed 2 115 four strokes and the boat gives 30 knots, and cruises at 22.

Visibility sucks, and demands a prudent operator. Even more, this is a 2 person crew boat.

Being in the tropics, it has a carpet lined interior and two fans so it stays cool on the hottest day. It is a pleasure to work in.

Prices are a bit steep, now ranging between 28K usd and 38K.

For a survey launch or workboat they are unreal. Depending on your interest I will develop the thread.Click image for larger version

Of course we need more pictures and a build thread!

Did you get the foam in blue or did you go get them Rhino Lined after you got it?

Nope, it was ugly orange but in very good shape. We used a special polyurethane paint not unlike the used to paint PVC ribs. Painting took 24 working hours to complete .

So far, It had withstood some contact at docks and salt water spray. Details on the product later

Not that I could afford one, but would it be possible to remove the cabin (or at least the rear part of it) to open the rear deck up a bit?

Yes please give us some more pictures and details! There has been a steady supply coming on the gov auctions lately and I have been tempted.

Not likely on the 25 as the cabin deck level is lower than the aft deck. It would be a major modification on an already expensive boat. The walk around models have a single level deck as well as the center console models.

When I bought mine I thought I would use it for r&r and cruising. Turns out it is only going to be a good workboat.
