It's a special event & worth the effort, you have the river to yourself & travel through the centre of the greatest city in the world as it wakes. I have great memories. Unfortunately we can't do it this year due to the dates. Don't be fooled, it's hard work, but worth the effort. You will be on the water for 12hrs at chugging speeds, trying to keep people alive, half of whom have a death wish......watch out for the dragon boats, their only redeeming feature is that they are easy to sink😏

Evening all,
The next email will be with you later this week with the safety fleet handbook, risk assessment and possibly the powerpoint presentation (if I get time!).
So far only ONE boat crew has contacted our secretary to confirm their place at the campsite. Please ensure you include how many people will be camping and how many tents you will be bringing. Please make sure you do this by the 22nd of August at the very latest.
I'm still looking for 5/6 more boats if anybody is interested.
Many thanks,
Chris

Morning all, is anyone launching from Lower Ham road slipway on Saturday morning? I fancy cruising in company and it's safety in numbers from those nasty rowing boats 😀

If that's the slipway just around from the camp site, then yes - sort of.
I'm planning on launching Friday night and putting her on a mooring overnight alongside others doing the same, then Saturday morning poddling down to the start - more then welcome to join us

Cool ... what time you setting off from the campsite? Looking at the tides I think the window of opportunity to clear Richmond lock closes sometime around 0700!?

Last year I'm sure it was afloat for 6am, and we only just made it for 10am.
Don't forget the boring speed limits.
Either way it was still dark when we left and I haven't seen morning darkness for a long time.

You need to be on the water ready to go at 5.30. You do not want to be last man down to Limehouse or you'll struggle to tie up. Make sure you have fenders.
