Safety boat volunteer great river race

So who on here is doing the great river race safety boat cover on the Thames for northern exposure rescue on 3rd of September? There's going to be 35 safety boats.

I'll be there, coming up on the Friday, launching Friday tea time hopefully for a run about then leaving the rib on a mooring whilst jumping into the local travel lodge.

Not too knackering I hope? Need to be in Poole 0800 Sunday as safety officer for the Round Brownsea Island Swim

I will be there, heading down Friday - I aim to arrive at the camp site mid afternoon to get setup, boat in and crack open a few beers.

Last year was my first, and Saturday is a very long day - but loads of fun, and boating through London at stupid O'clock in the morning when its still dark was very impressive.

Is that the Sea Scouts place?

See you there if it is, By 6PM on Friday I hope to have the boat in the water, a beer in my hand, and the BBQ lit!

I launched last year at River Lane, and I plan on doing the same again this year.

They have changed boatlaunch so I cant copy the link, but its the one by the sea scouts and the German school.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.44.../data=!3m1!1e3

The only bit im unsure of is the storage place for the trailers - last year I followed Tony to the storage field, so hopefully that information will come out soon from NER.

Trailer parking is at the Ham house site where all the race boats park. About 2 miles from the scout camp. Launching is at the end of River Lane.

That sounds simple enough, we're staying at the travel lodge at Kingston which is just down the road i believe.

Our plan is launch Friday (at the River Lane site), take boat to moorings and trailer to Ham house, leave car and trailer there and jump on bus to travel lodge once beer has been shared

Could take a while to bimble up to London from here - but hoping for mid afternoon - is this inside the pollution zone thing?

I am heading down from Manchester, but going to try and get off early to make some good time.

You didnt fancy camping then...

It wasn't inside the congestion zone last year - so unless its grown should still be OK.

Just remember depending on when you arrive, if you get a mooring you will also need a way of getting back from the mooring - Last year I got alongside a pontoon so made it much easier...

If you're coming from the north, follow the m25 round to the M3 & head into London that way past Twickenham, go over Richmond bridge & turn right. Simples. You'll need a tender if on a mooring, also nav lights & torch(you set off in pitch darkness on the Saturday morning, dawn is around the Houses of Parliament. Depending on the tide, you might have to go through Richmond lock (interesting&#128516. It's a loooong day, take food, drinks & never pass up the chance for a pee👍 you also need to be proficient at herding cats.

With the briefing at 10 why so early - is it that slow a trip down the river to the start?

You need to allow 4 hours down to lime house pier. 8kn limit from Richmond to Wandsworth, 12kn from Wandsworth to Limehouse. About a 25 mile trip. Tying up at Limehouse is a nightmare, need fenders & a fkin big boat hook to tw4t the bloke who tries to tie up to your engine.🙄

It's well worth it. We didn't find out about the early start until the night before as we cracked open a crate of larger... they didn't get drunk!

Was well worth it though seeing London so still and quiet at dusk.
