Safety Helmet

Being a tight wad and not wanting to pay for a proper Gecko Helmet.

I was wondering what people thought of this helmet for a cheap alternative for winter boating to keep the spray off

The Ebay head-gear is what it is and for the money is probably worth a punt. What's the alternative, a warm hat and Bollé ski goggles (which is what I use).

I bought a used Gecko helmet second hand and it wasn't for me. I understand their use in a safety setting, but I felt it filtered out my sense of surroundings, especially for sounds, etc. They are a quality product though.

Just one thought for you.

The Gecko is specifically designed as a marine safety helmet, and as such is designed to reduce the chance of it snapping your neck if you go overboard at any sort of speed.

Imagine the forces involved with that helmet when it catches the water as you go overboard.
Admittedly it's more likely to break before snapping your neck, but it's going to do a lot of damage as it gets ripped off.

Nasher.

A couple of points:
the lid would seem to be a bit of a wind catcher-I would be very cautious about peeking up over your windscreen, and..
I would replace/modify the chin strap so that it has a (very) weak point. As Nasher says, the "bucket effect" is quite real!
Granted there is good eye coverage, but what about your ears?

That thing looks Horrendous for the application of Boating!
Why not just INVEST in a reasonabley priced world beating British made Helmet specificly researched...designed...engineered ...modified ...used (and tested) by both military and civilian boating services in extreme Marine environments all over the World!??...

Plenty of good used examples about if new price is that much of a concern.
Love our Gheckos....lightweight Waterproof..Protection..and wiith the inflatable internal bladder ....surprisingly comfy AND warm!
As a Bonus..... you won't look like a penny pinching "Bob (Knob?) The Builder"!

Certainly a better option than the OP's Choice!

Yeah, but if he’d just gone out & bought a Gecko without making a song and dance about it, he wouldn’t have got all this attention [emoji848]

Well why be booring..... Gave some people something to think about or you could of course just follow along with the crowd and share very little.

I learnt of another make I of hat I can now research.

Good thing is we have choices...... fun isn't it

I needed to take some water to fill up the car washer bottle the other day. I used a lemonade bottle (Petrol free) to do it. I did not use a designated, designed washer bottle filler device that was free of any contaminates including lemonade. I am now worried about my car warranty as I have used the wrong thing.

To be clear this post is not a pop at anyone it is just my view as I and I know some other people see things. As always each to their own

Just ordered that hat by the way

No I haven't so can't comment on whether they will steam up in the winter.
