Salcombe holiday

I'm going to salcombe for a week (11-18th July) with the thundercat. I've only been in the river on a small SIB but never into the sea down there.

Is there anything I need to look out for or avoid?
Anywhere that's good for a visit?
& is there any kit in particular I should pack apart from the usual?

Look out for the Harbour masters speed traps. Watch out for breakers on the bar. Take plenty of Gerry cans so you can fill up at the top of the hill not on the fuel barge. The price is usually fifty p per litre higher than the fuel station.
