Salcombe holiday
Hi I’m going to Salcombe for a week, mooring the rib at Batson pontoon and as never been there before wondered if there were short stay visitors moorings we could use to grab lunch etc. Also POI’s would be most welcome information

There’s a visitors pontoon just around the corner from Batson by the town centre. Fairly generous time I think, maybe 2 hours.
POI being position of interest? You’ve got good tides for a cruise to kingsbridge next week, grab a pint at the crabshell. Hope cove and bigbury are nice easy trips from salcombe. Going east, Bee sands (Cricket in is lovely), slapton etc are not too far away.

Just got back from a week in Salcombe, rib less this year sadly but happy to share some of my experience if you wanted to send me a direct message.
Answer your original points;
Batson is located not far from the main town, so dependant where you are staying you may find it easier leaving it at batson for lunching in town etc, otherwise you what white strands which is in the town centre, the Normandy pontoon I believe is the visitors pontoon (furthest from batson of the two)
Very good slip at Batson useable all states of the tide but a lot of the batson moorings dry out.
Enjoy the trip

It's a great run to Torquay, start point will enliven your day!!
Plymouth is great too with Burgh island, plenty of rivers and the sound to explore.

Burgh Island-very tricky if you go inshore. Best keep offshore and look.
Newton Ferrets-good to visit. See how far you can go upstream.
Plymouth-very good.Look out for big ships, go around breakwater, see how close you can get to it. Avoid rocks on left as you go in from Salcombe and keep outside i.e. to port, off the marker beacon. More boats have been lost by people trying to cut the corner. Lots to see at Plymouth.
If you are feeling adventurous try the Eddystone but keep clear- I didn't once, pranged my prop (OK,OK, it was my first "offshore trip". Not looking at my plotter, too busy looking at the day).
And this just going to the right out of Salcombe!

If you do come to Plymouth Sound have a stop off in Cawsand Bay, very picturesque indeed and a great anchorage in S/W/N weather.
Also the Barbican now has a visitors' pontoon.

All sounds amazing guys, we have a 4.2 grand rib with 60 horse motor, been told that Batson pontoon dries out and only accessible 3 hours either side of HW would this be the case for a small boat such as ours or would we have a little linger with enough water?
Rich
