I think it's a scam.

"The outboards being sold are back in their factory "open box" crates."
OR
"You pay us £5k and we'll ship them to you, honest... and you can't view them 1st."

I've emailed them.Lets see what reply I get.

Got a reply...

This guy really is a bit dim. He replied to an email from Hugh Man-Bean.

I've left his email address in here because the scammers and spambots will pick it up

G Robinson robinsong88yy@yahoo.co.uk

Hi and thanks for your interest for my 2007 Yamaha 250 4 Four Stroke Outboards .the engines are still for sale for £ 5000.00

Here are my terms:
i decided to close the deal through escrow-europa which is the safest way to buy and sell online.it is the only escrow company recommended by ebay.

If you don,t know how escrow europa works i will explain it for you:
1.buyer and seller agree to the terms of the transaction
2.buyer makes payment to escrow europa
3.seller ships item to buyer
4.buyer aproves item (15 days inspection period)
5.seller is paid

As soon as i receive the confirmation from escrow that the funds have been deposited to their account, i will ship the engines to your adress.
The engines will be delivered to your address in no more than 10 working days. You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the engines at home.
If you decide to hold the engines , then you will have to authorize escrow to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed. If you will not be satisfied with the engines, you will be able to send the engines back through the same shipping company, and ask escrow to return the funds to you.IN case of return you don't have to pay anything.
Though i am sure you will love the engines and will not want to return it, it is good to know that you do have this second option available.
So if you are really interested please register with escrow-europa and send me the email adress which you have used for register.then i ll start the escrow transaction.the escrow fees and the shipping cost are supported by me.

Thanks
Robinson G

may not be a scam??

my friend bought a engine this way 3 months ago and all went well
he had the serial no sent to him of the engine and checked with the manufacturers (yamaha) it was genuine and not stolen.
it was a 100hp yamaha i have seen the engine and it looks brand new,
he is a director of a company and used this method of payment before,
when he got the engine he double checked everything with the manifacturers etc and even spoken to the original owner he is happy and saved a bit of money
just cus its a different way of sellling things dont pre judge
even if you see the engine 1st then buy you need to check out all things
thanks
stephen

escrow is a very common method of payment for high value items and especially in the USA when nothing of value moves without it being involved...

we have had nothing but 100% succes in dealing with escrow agreements - both in India and USA - as long as the escrow account is held by a legal profession or a recognised escrow account holder... dont knock it until you have tried it, the UK system of purchasing high value consumer goods £5,000+ could learn alot from this....

we bought something for $14 mill USD that should have been priced at over $20 mill USD thro escrow - if the escrow is good - you should not have a care in the world as its even more legally biniding than an insurance policy... more haste - less speed................!!!!

Guys, it's a scam. You DONT get twin 250 yams for £5k. Apart from that, there's a shedload of tags that ID this as non-UK in origin.

Take a read of this and ask yourself why the seller wants the email address that you'll be using for the escrow transaction...

Course, you could always stick his IP address into this IP locator and find out that he's here in Romania...

Which it clearly isn't in this case. This is a very obvious scam.

Using a genuine escrow service for high value transactions can be an excellent way of doing business, but using a false escrow service is also a very common way of attempting to relieve the gullible and greedy of their money!

A quick Google shows that I'm half right.

Escrow europa appears to be a legitimate escrow company. I still have no doubt that this offer is a scam though!

Some interesting reading here: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.js...1639&start=160 it refers specifically to Ebay, but most of it applies to any transaction.

John

Escrow-europa is genuine but I'm 99.9% certain what you'd get once the scammer has the email addy you're registered with there you'll start getting fake phishing emails 'from' escrow-europa.com directing you to send cash to someone.

Hint-if you have the display mime/full header option displayed then you'll immediately get enough info to see what email addy or IP it REALLY came from.

I have to say I do like the BoatsandOutboards email system-it allowed me to get the scammers IP address to check when the scammer emailed me direct, yet he didn't get mine-and you can use any name you want to make it easier to distinguish the source of the email if there are follow-up scam email attempts from different addys.

If they'd been brighter scammers and come up with a cheap, but realistic price and left Bob's bloody jack-up plates out of it, they may have had a bite.
