Scorp 7.5m + suzuki 300??
Thinking of the above set up. Has anyone ever put a single 300 yamaha on one or another 7.5 Rib? Or is it too much? speed is the key on this one.
Or has anyone thort of this idea and come up with any floors i.e scorp recomending that 300hp is to much for the hull???
Saw the new Suzuki 300 yesterday at the boatshow, it looked v.cool, as do all Suzuki's.
comments would be most helpfull.

250 is the recommended maximum.... what sort of speed do you want?
http://www.scorpionribs.com/7.5m.html
You would probably be better off with an 8.1 if you want to use a 300hp engine

Ok. well 60kts was our goal. does anyone know what it would go like with a 250? I think the 8.1 is a bit big to trailer on our small roads here in Jersey.

Scorpion 7.5 with Evinrude 250 DI 98 km/hr = 60,8 mph = 52,9 kn.

Nick,
The Scorpion hull is not as fast as some of the competiotion (like Revenger) good sea keeping is their strong point. From memory a 7.5 with 200 Fichct E'rude achieved 55 knts when we tested one last year. You may achieve your goal with a 300hp, but if Scorpion say it's too much power they probably know what they are talking about.
In my experience the 8.1m is much better in tricky sea conditions than the 7.5m, but I understand what you say about trailing.
An 8.1m with stepped hull & a 300hp could be the answer to your quest, but it's not cheap
Regards
Ian

Went on the Deauville cruise last week and i can only confirm that the sea keeping of the scorpion was as good as i think you can get.
As for speed, doing the Channel showed me that its not all about 60 knts

Scorpion are pretty helpful people, why not simply ask them for their thoughts on this and explain your reasons, I am sure its a simpler way to get an accurate answer..

Hi Nick,
If you are looking for alternatives we have a Verado 250 on a BananaShark 770 doing 65mph (nearly 60 knots) and are confident that it would handle a 275 Verado or even an XS300 if you wanted even more speed!

I'm sure it would be ok with the weight of a modern 300 hp, but the current max recommended hp is 250.
Lymington Marine Sales have an 8.75 with twin 275 Verados for sale at present. Although the max hp for that hull is 2 x 300 I would think that those Mercs must weigh much more than a pair of 300 Yams, so there is a bit of lea way. Mind you, at 280 litres per hour WOT speed comes at a price
Cheers
Ian
