Scorpion For Sale
A 7.5m Scorpion in excellent condition with striking yellow tubes and a Mariner 175hp outboard with hydraulic steering has just come on the market. Built in mid 1998 with offshore wide console and 60 gallon fuel tank. Seating is 2 x 2 jockey seats and roll back aft seat upholstered in dark blue. The Scorpion comes with ICOM vhf, GPS, echo sounder, 'A' frame with navigation lights and individual grey covers for the seats and console. Full service history.
Picture attached.
Does anyone know who this rib belongs to as I have asked Scorpion and get absolutely no response.

Does it need to be CE marked if its 1998? Can't recall when CE marking came into effect - thinking on it probably was around 98 as my BWM was CE marked. My '97 Scorpion isn't. Ah well, no biggy.

Maybe it's sold now as I've noticed that it's been on sale for some time now. It's also on brokerage here:
http://www.iysbc.com/boat_info.asp?ID=421
How about this as an alternative (at about the same price)...

"Scorpion owner rises to taunt"
Oh gawd here we go again...........
Each to his own. £20k for a used Scorpion - a boat that probably would cost £45k new - probably the best built RIBS in the UK vs whatever one of those dodgy South African trans blah blah whatever it is thingys? I know what I would rather do. In fact I did.
Only thing about this particular one is that doesn't appear to be new-tech outboard (opti/ficht/hpdi) & doesnt appear to have a trailer so seems lot of dosh.

No No No Manos you are still suffering from the repetative form of U.k. Ribs are big Reep off syndrome .
Its all best forgotton now and we can all walk round this very unfortunate syndrom,No need to bring this very soar point back to the forum,as we all know what happend last time. Dont Wee.
Alan I knew it woldnt take you long before you popped out on this one . 39 mins to be precise at the mention of a Scorpian rib.
She is a nice looking boat and I am sying no more, exept its june 1998 when RCD came in,if anybodys is reley interested.
Thanks Charles,Alan ,Manos,Pepper,H20 for all being predictable, and that includes me.eg RCD
Happy ribbing

I must say that when I buy a boat I dont expect to loose money on it,But I expect it to stay at the same price, if at all possible,Certanly not 50% over 4yrs.Thats Bad boat buying if thats the depreciation you will get.

- I'm intrigued that my reply was predictable! Esp. as I can't remember commenting on used Scorpions or posting "www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk" links.

Me too I was merely asking if anyone knew anything about this rib as Scorpion were not responding to any of my questions. H20 - thanks for the offer, she has been sold.
Manos, please let's not go down that road again - I have owned numerous ribs from SA - NOTHING compares to a Scorpion. The Scorpion Ribs are expensive, no qualms there, but they sell because people are prepared to pay for them - ripped off or not.

Interestingly enough
A 7.8m (7.5m) Scorpion built by RIBCO under licence in Greece is 58,000 Euro with 250 Yam HPDI. Plus VAT. Not including trailer. By my maths thats £40k odd. Plus VAT. Plus trailer. Not so cheap in Greece eh? ( http://www.ribcomarine.com). They also have a second hand 7.5m on their books for Euro 27k = £18k which sounds about right for a 97 boat and EFi engine.
All comes down to you get what you pay for. Scorpion seem to find enough people willing to pay the price and the product is truly excellent. Even the old ones like mine. I tried other RIBS and am very happy where I ended up. And I'd rather have my one overpriced second hand Scorpion than two new 10k boats thanks.
BTW Crazyhorse, new boat in 97 would have been what 25-30k? (not the 45k price of today of course). 30% or less depreciation over 5 years? Not unreasonable for a RIB IMHO.

CH
Am told that a well-looked after Scorpion should depreciate by around 6% to 9% pa. As it was so long ago now I went to school I cant possibly vouch for my arithmetic. But if you take:
20k add 6% for 4 years you get just over 25k
with 9% it comes out at just over 28k
No comment from me, just thought I would throw in some more data.
BTW
Checked my sib this morning. It says Cat "Y".
What does that mean?
Suitable only for the swimming pool?

Well Alan if you know something more than I do then I rest my case.
However, I do not know how you can know better than me since you are 3000 miles away from here and I am only about 5/6 kms away from Scorpion's tube gluing factory in Lavrion.
Furthermore, I have heard a rumor that because the 7.50 is VERY expenssive in Greece they are not producing it for the Greek market any more.

Scorpion
I Know that Scorpion are launching later this year the Greece model of the 10mtr Rib, I think they do quite well out there on sales with about 20 being made last year. Be interesting to see how they do with the bigger models etc.
