Scorpion streamline their range??

Looked at the Scorpion web page last night and see they have streamlined their range

Now they appear to offer 6.5, 8.5, 9.75 and the Sting.

Appears to target the superyacht tender market more than the stand alone rib market and as a former customer looking to return to the rib market, i think they will be off the list now. 6.5 is too small for us and 8.5 is too big both in terms of size and budget!

ho humm...

Thats a bit strange, I'd have thought the 8.1 was one of their most popular models?

I have been looking into buying a new rib and have been round to see scorpion recently. I asked them the same question as their new brochure is similar to their website. their reply to me was that the "standard range" is to make it easier for people to see what type of boat they want and not overwhelm them, but if you know what you want they will build a boat to your specifications.

hope this helps as there seems to be some confusion,

Call me a cynic but is this not a ploy for them to increase their costs further?

"Ah Mr Zippy of course we can do you your dream 8.1 but it will be a customs build and therefore will cost additional £X 000's"

Dont get me wrong, i know from personal experience i love their product and am the first to promote them on their quality. maybe i will have to resign myself to the fact i am not their target market!!

Cynic!

I'm sure if Scorpion onwers, Scorpion buyers and the Scorpion web designer spoke to one another the website would look different........

I am saddened by the new scorpion. It took 4 months for an upholstery/retrim quote and over 6 months for a retube quote. Not only were both prices crazy, it annoyed me that on both instances they had categorically told me they wanted my work, yet i was obviously small fry so not worth the bother... The Scorpion of old always replied within 24working hours, then if they did not have an immediate answer, Joy would reply again to assure you they would return with feedback. Even over the silliest of things like where to mount a cleat, or history on my boat.

Regardless of the hull I doubt Id buy another now.

The other side of this is
Matin Munday hit a submerged log at the entrance of Lymington
he droped anchor phoned Scorpion a 5pm got towed in
and the MD Patrick, droped them off in Portsmouth
I agree about Joy, she sort of glued it all togeather
I dont think the probleam with getting a quote is unique to Scorpion
A few years ago i desided i wanted a Ribcraft i knew what i wanted
i phoned, email , and faxed to a man called jason
i was told that they where very busy, so 5 month later i bought a Cobra.
And that realy was a bad choice
I have only had good exsperiences with Scorpion.

humm,

Dont want to drift to Scorpion bashing! theres enough of that about!

Agreed that Joy was great at customer services and have had good dealings with Stuart Thornley as well! also, when dealing with Patrick i got full, informative replies even when being completly open about my position with regard to buying at the time!

I guess its a sign of the times and if the money for them is in Super Yacht tenders and expensive toys rather than someones pride and joy then who can blame them for focusing on that area, should it be to the detriment to others, in an ideal world no, but something it happens!

Being in the service industry, there can be no excuse for not servicing customers in my view, especially existing ones, its usually harder to secure new clients than keep old ones!!

i can see a pattern here, i hope not, but ribtec went a similar way by focusing on the camel project and nothing else, didn't do much other stuff while we were doing them, a few months after that they sold to ribeye, as i said earlier i hope that not forgetting how they got there, pubs put on good one off do's but it's the regulars that keep it open

Scorpion boats in my eyes, were great hull, great quality control and customer support. Hence why I bought one..... I keep my fingers crossed they remember the effort that went into producing that kind of strength and following.
