Sealant to use around jocky seat console and hand rails/ stainless steel fittings

Hi everyone

I would like some advice on what sealant would be best to seal around the base of a jocky seat console. I've asked this question before on here and decided to use 3m 4000uv from what people had recommended to me on here but about 3 year have pasted since I did it and it looks quite deity which I notice it got dirty fairly quickly after I did it and I've tried cleaning it but doesn't clean off

So I would like to know if anyone could recommend me another sealant to use that would be similar but not get dirty?

The other question of like some advice on is I took the stainless steel grab rail, seat frame and some of fixing off the boat as some were getting some rust on the, which I have cleaned with a stainless steel cleaner.

I'd like to know if when re-attaching the on the boat should I use some sealant around where they fit on to the jocky seat console as they never had any before and was wondering if it would stop any potential water getting in the jocky seal console and water sitting behind the grab rail, seat frame and fixtures. If so what sealant would be best to use?

I've attached some pictures of the two things I've mentioned and any advice would be gratefully welcomed, many thanks in advance.

Matthew

Assuming the jockey console is already bonded or screwed to the deck, then Sikaflex 291i is a general purpose marine sealant. Clean out the old sealant with a knife. In order to get a good finish you can mask the area, but if you feel confident, then apply a thin bead of Sikaflex along the entire length of the console. Wear nitrile gloves, dip a finger in white spirits and run your finger along the bead and you'll get a clean polished seal that shouldn't get dirty.

Regards the stainless steel handholds, again, as long as it's not structural and they are screwed and bolted in place, then a small bead of Sikaflex before mating the surfaces will help eliminate water entering the joint. After applying the hardwear, clean off any excess with white spirits and paper towelling for a really professional finish. Hopefully that reduces the possibility of rust stains where the oxide barrier on the stainless steel has broken down.

You could switch the 291i for 292i on the stainless handholds given its adhesive properties. I've not used it before, so it could prove a bit of a ****** to remove. That said you shouldn't really need to take it apart for maintenance.

The issue with 291i and 292i is that they are not UV stable - they break down in sunlight.

Sika 295 is UV stable. If you are using it as a sealant rather than a structural adhesive I'd use 295.

Thank you Spatacus and GuyC for your advice. The jockey seat console is bonded and screwed in to the deck but as GuyC mentioned as the joint will be exposed to sunlight, so I think I'll use sika 295 for around the jockey seat console and sika 291i on the stainless steel grab rail and fittings, as if for what ever reason.they need to come off in the future I don't want to have a battle getting them off haha.
Many thanks for the advice
