I used to own a JetSki (Which was stolen - if any of you Ski lovers come across a man called John Hopkins, do not do business with him as he is as dishonest as they come!) mainly for school work, and it was good fun. It was a SeaDoo GTX 4-Tec, and the things I liked about it were just how easy it was to launch and recover, cheap on fuel, and minimal hassle.
I didn't like being treated like a chav just because I owned one though , nor did I particularly enjoy riding it for extended periods of time - couldn't see myself going to Cowes on it for a pub lunch for example!
Good fun for a blast around, but not much value as a viable craft I'd say.

Nor are they much good for carrying dive gear, camping gear, dogs... or wives.
On second thought, what model would you suggest?
In case she ever reads this thread, for the record, this was a joke. I am NEVER happier than when Mrs. Stoo is sharing a jockey seat with me!

I had a Seadoo wake 155Hp, it gave me a grin that went right round my head.
Performance was out of this world, never tried the 215s, as I don't have enough underpants.
I did feel that I was classed as a Chav, even did the RYA PWC course, which is well worth doing, before you are let loose.
The idea was to sell the ski and buy a rib, but that hasn't happened yet.
In an ideal world, i think it would be great to have a ski and a rib.

Thats one good reason having said that, at full throttle you could get your own back for all the years of nagging.

I'd got for the last of the seadoo 2 strokes - maybe the GTi 130 - thats 130hp I think !
can get 3 adults + stuff & still hit 30 + knts .
But make sure its been well looked after - probably do able for 3k . I'd want one with more hours than less, like outboards, lack of use can be a killer for long term reliability .
Most hours I managed in a year was 40 ish - just not fun in the real cold , or for more than 20 minutes at a time.

doubt you would get a fx140 for 3k unless its done hundreds of hours.
i believe the most reliable skis aroung are the Yam 2 strokes which come in a 80 /120hp and 155hp, guise(155 s drink for england) Gp series (no reverse bucket) and the XLT series have reverse.hence most of the rental skis are these models.
Kawasaki do a st 1100 di great mechanics but Hull too shallow and hence rough ride, some cheap stx 1200f coming along now but still hull not as good as waverunners.
you will start seeing the fourstrokes coming in shorty for cheap money but normally high hours, well 150 plus

Mate and myself bought a new 6.5m Rib last year, but have still got our jetskis.
I've got a Seadoo RXT @ 215hp. Have never QUITE managed to 70mph, but have hit 69+ on a few occassions. Believe me.. that really does put a big grin on your face!
The ski is great if you want a couple of hours of total madness.
Saying that, being able to take more friends, and staying warm and dry on the rib is nice too
I've attached a couple of my best photos of me and mates on our skis.

My mates just brought a mint 2004 fx160, low hrs for £3,500 next year it should fetch 4,000. or you should easily find a good fx140 around the 3,000 mark.
I brought a 2008 fx 160 as a stop gap,but will definatally be hanging on to it
And i mean that litterally, superb hull on the 140 160.

If you buy a jetski, and are proud owner, why hide behind a rib profile, why not declare i now own a souped up eggwisk pedalo, they must be good remember Del boy having a go on one,on that program FOOLS and Horse Power or something like that
On serious note,Yes a back rest,an abilty to carry up to large family or an dive gear ,makes me use it quite often through the summer

I had a couple of skis, a few of my mates have skis and yes they are great. Funny thing is they all beg me to bring the rib out when they go so they have some-where to put their stuff and so they don't get so bored so quickly... Mind you performance per £ they win hands down.
Also going back to a previous post, it is the actions of the few that affect the many...
Sell the RIB and buy a jetski, have both if you can

Myself and a few friend have Yamaha Superjet's as well as our ribs, can't beat them for cheap fun about £20 fuel for and afternoon and ease of launching etc is great.
Picture below was taken at the front of Culzean castle in Ayrshire.
