Anyone hear of an incident last month (September) where a Services Sub Aqua club rib was trashed in an easterly gale at Porthkerris beach, Cornwall?
Apparently it was left out on an offshore mooring, against the advice of the local dive centre, while the team went "ashore" ( as I believe the Navy refer to it) and imbibed of much falling down water.
The following Sunday morning the weather had got up considerably as forecast, the rib was doing back-flips on the mooring and a brave (stupid?) member of the team decided to swim out towing a rope in order to rescue the craft.
Sadly it was a sinky rope, he got half way out and the line snagged on the seabed and began to pull the "swimmer-of-the-watch" under, in the end his chums called the Coastguard and both Falmouth Lifeboats attended.

The Rib, a considerable craft by all accounts and no doubt provided at taxpayers expense, was a total constructive loss.
