Cork Week is a huge sailing regatta (place is full of WAFI's)
Some say bigger and better attended than Cowes Week.
But am told there will be a large number of ribs there to, playing about or working (one will have me on it!)

Just wondered if any forum people would be there too

as do a number of my conterparts in other companies
goes with my sense of humour!

Its The cork "Ford" sailing week held every year. Good for the craic and tons of guinness. A major festival for the City.

If anyone is going and needs a tour guide for the week I would be happy to volunteer for a cruise accross.

My cousin is a WAFI (he's got a RIB as well!) and loves the black stuff so if I can persuade him to go I'll have a bunk for the duration -

Luckily his newish wife is just as bad a piss-head as him so it would be great to come over and meet even more people - I feel a plan coming together!

Cork Sailing week is a biannual (or is it biennial?). It alternates with the Nautor Swan Europeans and Admirals Cup. Undoubtedly better than Cowes Week today. Not nearly so commercialised and a lot more 'black stuff' (Beamish).

1. WAFI - not heard of that before, it has been logged and will be used. Like it.
2. Please do not tar all us yotties with the same brush. I agree that a great number of the plastic rag and stick tubs on the sea are driven by total idiots. I know, I have come to close hitting most of them in 25 years of racing in the channel and solent.
3. There some RIB owners in the same catagory. While on route to Cowes fireworks last year (on a yacht) we were passed by at least 3 RIBS with kids sitting on the bows without lifejackets! Also numerous RIBs and powerboats passing so close that they clearly heard our spoken condamnations.
4. Remember that the next yacht that tries to tack in front of you will be owend by your Bank Manager, and shouting at him will have a detrimental effect on your overdraft facility.
5. You should have been passing clear enough to not have to take drastic avoiding action, hence preserving your overdraft facility.
6. Each to his own. I have, on 1 memorable occasion, been on an 11m yacht which out accelerated the Ancaster RIB from standstill all the way to 18 kts. Now, that takes some beating for an adrenalin rush.
7. See how much Gold we pick up in Athens in the sailing events.
8. Why don't we buy each other a beer at Ribex?

I was not really being detrimentle, honest GUV.

I see god and bas in all area's of the industry.
Also I am an EX WAFI too.

Oh also the bank manager thing, I got that suss a few years back, moved in with mine, she had my child.
Work wonders for the over draft.
Down side, she holds the purse strings and she wants a motor cruiser!!

I once crewed for my Bank Manager in the Cork area. Unfortunately we both forgot the very well -known sandspit (only a W.A. Dinghy) and the dagger struck, holing the boat. All he had by way of bailing material was his daughter's sandbucket with which I set to work as we began to sink. Everyone on shore was falling about laughing. I didn't get to crew for him again. I did some banking by letter and phone for a while after as well.

Glad you took my post as it was intended, I was worried for 20 or 30 seconds.

Murpheys - kills brain cells, therefore I can never remember which is from Cork!! I much prefer it to the stuff from Park Royal but it is close call between Murpheys and the Dublin brew. (I can't spell Guiness, or can I?)

I did a season with the Midland Bank southen area manager. No way would you get him to move in, even if you were of the opposite sex. I have rarely met such a foul mouthed, debauched and all round OK guy. Quite handy on the helm as I recall.
It's a go on the beers.

Any one read "Sods Law of the Sea"? It has been my bible for many years.

Beamish is Cork too...it's just that Murphy's Chimney was one of the landmarks of my younger days...coming back from Limerick (Angela's Ashes does NOT exaggerate!!) that chimney meant I was nearly home.

The description of the Bank guy sounds a typical Cork Man ...(except for Cork RIB who is a 'blow in' and therefore civilised by his upbringing in Betty's Tea Rooms and Taylor's of Harrogate).

Which is why I married a Dubliner.
