Slip - Hamble Le Rice - Southampton

Today whilst driving around I cam across a slipway I didn't know existed. Its not on www.boatlaunch.co.uk either.

Situated at the rear of a trading estate on Ensign Way, Hamble Le Rice appears to be a perfectly servicable slipway. It looks free and parking appears to be free. Okay so it doesn't have a pontoon and with todays fairly stiff Westerley it might need some thinking about when launching to stop the boat blowing on shore. Oh and you'll need a 4 X 4 to get across the shingle at the top of the ramp.

Has any one used this slip. I did see one boat trailer left in the Trading Estate but that was it.

1) Looking down the slip towards Fawley.

2) Looking right of the slip towards Netley.

3) Looking Left of the slip towards the Hamble entrance.

4) Dangerous objects to left of slip.

5) The silver Fiesta was abandoned nearby. A bad sign.

Send a message via MSN to Zippy
that slip isnt a million miles away from my house.

i would suggest it would be very slippy but could work! you would of course need to get the conditions right as it does tend to blow on just there. there is of course no where to get passengers / kit onboard when your done but if that doesnt put you off then give it a try.

as for the area. it seems that kids love it down their for racing their cars! they are mostly harmless and when my gorlfriend and i have been walking back they have been pretty good and stopped whatever they are doing until we have gone past. the police know its a spot for them and are down their fairly regually. if you are considering it, maybe worth a talk with the RYA who are just down there also. sure their car park would be empty at weekends for a car and trailer??
