Slipway Fees
I had a quick look around the forums to see what other ribnetters are paying across the UK and came across Mister P's thread on Free Slips ( http://www.rib.net/forum/f8/free-slips-54875.html). Unfortunately, his website does not appear to be up and running yet so maybe we can preempt it with a quick poll around the country of the current launch fees including those few slipways that may still be free.
I can start as we visited Lymington last Saturday and paid £13 to the Harbour Commissioner for a vehicle assisted launch (£5.50 unassisted and £19 over 100hp) plus parking approx £1/hr when you're lucky enough to locate a space.
Who's next...

Warsash is free if you don't get charged harbour dues by the harbour master. Best to launch at dead low tide though, or you need a good roller trailer and a long rope.

I can't think of anywhere in Pembrokeshire that charge slipway fees, the parking's usually free as well, but don't tell anyone.

But at low water you won't get close to the slip in the boat let alone recover it.

Camber Quay slipway in Old Portsmouth costs just £2.50 and is concrete and regularly pressure washed to remove weed growth (next wash due this Thursday). There is free trailer parking and two Pay and display car parks. It is also right next to several pubs and a "greasy spoon"!

Thumbs,Camber is great value....,and easy launch/recover. Just call QHM on CH11 for permission to cross from camber to ballast pile, then enter small boat channel to leave harbour.

Yes. It's a damn shame there's nowhere to flush there or I'd use it far more.

Hythe Marina (near Southampton) has a free public slip and it is an excellent concrete slip. Can easily be used 2.5 hrs before HW and 3hrs after HW. Dependent on local knowledge / weather etc you can even extend this a bit too.
Car parking with a trailer (and lots of car and trailer spaces) is only £6 a day!!
Great place to launch and is pretty sheltered / not effected by tide across the slip.

I'm off to Plymouth next weekend and this thread prompted me to make some enquiries of MDL at Queen Anne's Battery -
They seem to be considerably cheaper and I got
Storage for the 2 nights on the trailer - £16
Slipway use for 1 day - £17.60
Car parking - FOC
Not quite as bad as expected!
So nicer boating area, no horrid Solent chop and cheaper!!!

Anyone tried Mudeford? I think the charge for the slip is only applied at weekend's. Parking is expensive though at £10 each for car and trailer. However there is a free trailer park adjacent to the slip if there is space. Don't know what the slip charge is because I've never paid it (retired you know!).
Care is needed at low water, especially at the entrance.
Calshot has a useful slip but don't know what the charges are now. Parking is plentiful though and used to be free.
There is also a slip at Swanage, I seem to remember its a good wide one. But do not know charges.
There's Baiter in Poole. However its used extensively by jet skis, some of whom have poor manners. Dedicated parking available.
Perhaps other ribnettets may know the charges on the above slips.
Could we not have a new category or thread sticking strictly to slips and charges, with photographs? Would prove very useful, or does such a facility already exist?

There's plenty of free slipways around the Plymouth area. Some with free parking for the trailer/car too. Oreston Public slipway is a reasonable one.
I'm not sure you'll find a cheaper storage site though. I'd offer myself my my wee yard is full!!!
QAB is very nice though and for what would be less than £20 saving I'd stuck with that. They can go in at most states of tide too, if not all.
Enjoy

Calshot is about £20.
Have a look at this site Boatlaunch.co.uk Home Page
