Small Safety Issue?

Hi guys.

We have a seat on our Menai RIB which is moulded in the front of the console. The problem is, you get thrashed around on the bow of a planing RIB as I found out when out on a smaller Menai RIB the other day and trying to stay sat still (not successful).

Anyway, this seat is on the front of the console as I said and the issue is that I do not think there is anywhere to hold on to for safety. There is a grab rail on either side of the console by the seat, but it would mean holding on to them with your arms slightly behind you, if you get what I mean?

Have you any suggestions to make this safer? Can you get some kind of a seat belt for the front? There is no where in front of the seat to mount grab rails and the rib is too wide to hold on to the rope on the tubes.

Thanks,

Ed

i will let you into a little secret from a certain agency..... foot straps and a bridle strap that comes up from the centre of the console seat - as if you were riding a bronco....

if ever you need to intercept a 35kt+ boat that is running away and board it then - this is what the guy with the bullets hangs onto just before firing rounds into your block in order for you to stop and be asked questions...... like........have you been drinking laddy......or those fish look a bit off colour.... have you been feeding them talcum powder..... :-)

I think I get that?? Or not.. lol

I am thinking that we could put grab handles just below the seat on either side so that you can cling on to them just below your bum, as opposed to holding the rails behind you..

I will post a pic and see what you think. May help to gain some suggestions for handle placement..

Here is the only half decent picture I can find of it. I do believe this to be an acceptable size as it is 210KB I think and the dimensions should be ok too.

Any suggestions for handle placement?

I also put a picture of the RIB in for you to see it, if you happened to want to? It's there anyway.

That is exactly what I want to do on my RIB. Pulling down with your hands and pushing up with your feet will lock you nicely into position.

I was asking myself the same question when I saw this thing on boats and outboards last night!
I guess there's a reason for it though
