Solent RIB fuel filling issues

Has anyone else with a Solent had issues when it comes to filling the tank? I've come across similar problems before but never this bad. When filling the tank on our 9m Solent, you have to stop every 20l or so when you get about half way through the fill, otherwise the tank "backfires" and you end up with literally litres of fuel on the deck. It takes hours to fill (400l tank )

What sort of tank breather do you have? If it has a one way valve, it may not be allowing air out of the tank as the petrol goes in.

As far as I can see its a fairly simple, standard set up - a pipe that comes from the tank, then exits the side of console through a metal fitted with a gauze in it.
