south coast mooring

Could anyone advice me on somewhere along the south coast for a relatively inexpensive mooring from say May until September. Preferably in the Solent area as i am hoping to be on the water alot more this year and dont really want to trailer Rib down every time.
Thanks Spud

Hi Spud,

Calshot is a reasonable priced place (I am told about 400 a year which is V cheap) I also have heard of a place in Poole were they use a tractor to launch you which is also reasonable.

In the Marina where we met my 4.7 cost me 100 a month and the Camel cost me 140 a month (6.5 Metres). I am much happier were we are now and that costs about a 100 a month but it's dry berthed which I prefer.

A few Guys talk about the ECA in Portsmouth which might also be reasonable, but I don't know a lot about Portsmouth Moorings

Cheers
Stuart

You could always try Royal Clarence Marina.

They are Gosport side, right opposite HSM Victory.

Their phone no. is 02392 523810.

Only prob there is that there is no slip.

South Coast Moorings

Hi Spud,

For the use of the ECA at Eastney you would have to become a full member via sponsorship from another member.

Ken Brown Boats in the Camber are doing a lift & Shift type storage but not cheap.

Swing moorings in Portsmouth Harbour can cost over a grand a year. Chichester is even dearer. You could try Lanstone Harbour Master he may have some mud moorings spare (limited tides).

Cheers

Hi Spud,
I use eastlands boat yard at the top of the hamble. Seems pretty cheap at £70/month for a 7 meter Rib. Also has a pontoon for easy launching/recovery.
Access limited to about 4 hrs at high tide but they will launch for you for a smallish fee.
I quite like the 30 minute trip down the hamble river but it may get to some people.

Cheers

I used to keep Phoenix at Eastlands, but the new management really need to learn a thing or two about customer service. Some basic good manners would be a start!

Issues included losing my hitchlock and wheel clamp keys and telling me it wasn't their problem, and refusing to launch the boat because they (wrongly) thought that I hadn't paid.

I wouldn't use Eastlands again.

John

Hi John,
I would agree on the manners bit at Eastlands, plus on one occasion they left my trailer wheel lock unlocked with the boat keys in it..

But until I find somewhere cheaper than £70 I will put up with it.
Anyone got anywhere cheaper in the Solent for hard standing?

Regards

Ozz

Northney marina at the top of Chichester/Langstone harbours may be worth a look.

I use it just to slip as the boat is kept 4 miles away in my garden.
April - October £120/m = £702 (£58.50/month) includes slip use.
Can be busy at peak times but most users friendly and will help if solo etc, but if you plan you times it is not too much of a problem. Easy access from M27. I do Gloucester in about 2 hours from home, unless Crickley Hill to Birdlip is solid!!!!
The slip has access at all states of the tide, and you can escape under Langstone bridge from 1/2 tide ish otherwise via Chichester entrance at all times.
It is a bit out of the way for the solent but you also have both harbours to explore.
Cowes is about 20 mins via Langstone (at 25-30kts)
