Most of the hotels in Southampton are charging, double or tripple their usual room rates. I would suggest trying a hotel outside of Southampton and commuting in, the trains are very good and the station near the show. It is interesting that many hotels still have rooms available for the week of the show so maybe an indication that visitor numbers will be down this year.

Ibis is probably the closest and were I stay in Southampton, their normal rate is £50, next week it starts at £160 without breakfast.

I have used Premier Inns at Southampton and the rooms are good with options of meals added on but they do increase their prices during show week

I too use the premier in at Southampton (Eastleigh) airport, good rooms and nice food, also bit further out the travellodge at Fareham, basic but ok.. Mike

There's also a free shuttle bus that goes from the station to near the Boat Show. It's not a special for the Show - it serves the shopping centres and Red Funnel ferry as well. Otherwise it's a walk of only 10 minutes or so - OK if it's pleasant out.

Stay in Hythe, there are some really good B&B's and take the Hythe Ferry to the show. They do a special deal which includes entrance to the show.

Thanks folks, gave them all a try but with the kids in tow it was turning out to be a costly weekend at about 160 fuel tokens per room per night. In the end we booked the Hilton in Basingstoke for a bargain price off £59.00 per room. Its a little bit father out but still its on the way home.Again thanks and look farward to bumping into a few ribneters

Some of the guys working on a boat show stand last year from Jersey also stayed at the same Hilton at Basingstoke and if I recall they used the train as it runs straight in also if that helps
