Southampton Boat Show
Spent most of the day at the Southampton show yesterday with my family.
Depending on your preference there was actually some RIB Porn about, but not much.
A couple of nice Adam Younger designed fast pointy things for those that like that sort of thing, but for me there were some nice work boats that looked like they’d go anywhere in any weather.
The MacMillen RIB was obviously there too and looked very nice, a real credit to all involved.
The Hall with inflatables in was so much smaller, and I was disappointed not to see the fantastic looking new shape Evinrude range that have been in the magazines lately.
Unfortunately I forgot my Camera so haven’t got any shots of anything.
Moving up market Nordhaven had a lovely huge Expedition type boat on the pontoons, and I have to say the Beneteau Swift Trawlers look a whole lot nicer this year on the water than they have in the past when they’ve been on dry land.
May favourites the Botnia Targas were there again, but only up to 35’
Paragon had a new open cabin version of the RIB look-alike boat they’ve had at every show for the last few years which was nice.
There was also the nice looking boat with all the black powdercoated metal tube work and spotlights, can’t remember it’s name which is an age thing more than the boat being forgettable.
However I’ve completely fallen in love with – wait for it – and I apologise – a sailing boat.
The Bestewave 50.
Fantastic Scandinavian styling, covered cockpit, beautiful traditional style inside and out but made in modern materials.
If you google it the pictures don’t do it justice, but if you’re at the show make a point of looking at it, especially from the front quarter.
The nice young lady on board was very nice and didn’t mind us going on board for a butchers despite obviously being out of our league.
Found one for sale ‘used’ last night for €870,000, so will start looking down the back of the sofa tonight.
Having had my Family day there yesterday I’m back again on Thursday by myself to spend a day looking at some specific technical stuff the family would be bored with, so if anyone fancies a Guiness lunchtime let me know.
Nasher.

I had a great day there on Saturday. Came away lightly this time - only spent money on some proper waterproof jackets and got a free upgrade from Garmin.
I did take a tour of one of the massive Sunseekers, early on before the crowds got in. Just to see what Id spend my multiple lottery winnings on

A free upgrade? Who, where, HOW??!!
I'd only be looking for a jacket and trousers (been waiting for the Gill OS2 to come down in price) - were there any real bargains, or were the prices pretty much what you can get them online for?

I had some technical questions I took to the Garmin stand and after quizzing a few of them they got the boffin over to help. In the end he just gave me a memory card which i stuck in the card slot and it updated it.
I think they would give one to you, just ask. Or you could borrow mine. Ive got a 750S.
Clothing wise check out the Hudson Wight stand, ( Sailing and Foul Weather Clothing :: Hudson Wight Performance Sailwear) just over the first bridge and on the left hand side. Locally made and really good quality. The owner has a RIB and spends ages in the Solent on it. So he was a good person to chat to.

I've got Raymarine plotter so I wouldn't have any use for the Garmin upgrade - I thought you meant an upgrade to equipment, not the software, and anything for FREE STUFF!! lol.
Thanks for the link - will have a look.

Was there today. Really enjoyed. Only purchase - two pints of Guinness, and very nice they were too!
