Southampton - Refueling

Hi,

I'm hopefully coming up from Guernsey sometime between the 15th of November and 20th November to pick up my new XS-Rib. Which hopefully should be ready during that week and sail her back to Guernsey.

Not knowing Southampton water can anybody recommend a refueling pontoon or similar no too far away from Ocean Village that is not a complete b*tch to moor up single handed?!?!?!?

It's just that after Laurence has gone back to BM I'll have the rest of the day to play up and down the solent before my mates come across the following morning for the trip back.......so I'll probably need fuel.......by the time I've whizzed up and down for a few hours!

There are several places in the Solent but not all sell petrol. This site gives fuel prices so you can compare. Last season we found Lymington Yacht Haven to be the cheapest if you are putting in more than 100 litres and can pay by cash or cheque (not credit card). It is easy to moor here singlehanded. HTH

Have a good trip!

Nearest to Ocean Village is Hythe marina (24hrs, entrance by lock) but it's MDL prices (£1ish per litre). Easy manoevuring as there's no tide in the marina and usually sheltered. Best to put a few litres in at Hythe if you need to, then go down to Lymington Yacht Haven. The Yacht haven is the first marina as you go up Lymington River - entrance is to the left as you approach the wave screen, just by the sign advertising their diesel prices. They are sometimes cheaper than forecorut prices

It's 85p a litre at Lymington. That ain't bad at all when you consider it 86p at my local petrol station!

Hi,

If you need any help when you are here or somewhere to stay don't hesitate to ask. The Marina we are in charges 12.80 per night to stay in about a mile from Ocean Village and there is a petrol station nearby where we can collect some fuel from for you.

If you decline this most generous offer then the cheapest fuel is in Lymington (Berton) which is less than 90 p a litre. Check what times they are opem however

You can also use Port Hamble Marina, up the river Hamble which is the bottom end of Southampton Water - again MDL prices the last price I saw was £1.02/litre You could also nipp across to Cowes (IOW) and fuel up just past the chain ferry. I think that is less than a £1 a litre.

But as other's have said Lymington (The Yacht Haven) is the cheapest in the Solent

Is there more than one fuelling point in Lymington ? I filled up almost opposite (slighty up stream) where the ferry comes in and I am sure that it was more than 85p per litre. The fuelling piont that I went to is accessible from two sides and is maybe a metre above the water, making access interesting from the rib with full foul weather gear on ! Did I go to the wrong one ?

Sounds like you went to Berthon .

As you go into Lymington the Yacht Haven is the Marina to port immediately after you enter the 4 Knot speed limit at the break watery – sea defence thing. Turn to Port just before row “C” if I remember correctly. Fuel is by the marina buildings. Round about 85p when we were there in September.

Cheers

Phil

There are two place in Lymington to fuel up. One is a floating tank thingy opposite the ferry as you said and I think the other is in the first marina as you come into the river (on your left). I believe first one may be cheaper.

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Yes, there are two places to refuel. Lmington yach Haven is the best - the first marina you come to on entering the river, just B4 you go into the 4knot lmit. The other is Berthon and is almost opposite the ferry docking station. That one you can refuel on from both side. The Yacht Haven fuel point is actually on the quay with a mooring pontoon.

Hi guys,
I no this is an old topic, but, for future ref Berthon is actually cheaper than the Haven. Also i dont no about the rest of you (bar the hight of the refuller) i find Berthon easier to use as it is practically in the middle of the river, so you pull up, fuel, and away you go... with out the hassel of having to go all the way through the marina to get to the fueling dock (as at the Haven) You may or may not agree but i just thought i would get my say in. Thanks x
