If you at the north end of southampton water then the closest would be Hythe Marina, but this is accessed via a lock, so you may want to check the lock opening times.

Failing that you have Hamble River.

on the right hand side of the Medina at Cowes is another place, but wow do they charge!!!! £1.15 per litre at Port Hamble at the weekend and Cowes is much the same!!
if you've got the time go to Swanick Marina on the Hamble, the last time i filled it was around 95 - 97p per litre (cheaper if your a MDL berth holder) If your sticking in 200 litres thats a hell of a difference.

anybody else have any better solutions to cheaper fuel anywhere around the Solent??

Cowes was 1.19 a litre when I topped up Saturday. Yarmouth a bit better at 1.08. Will have to try the Hamble, as need somewhere a bit closer.

Thanks for the advice so far. Not sure that Hythe works as the lock will be a pain in the ****. Swanwick seems good but how long will it take to get up the Hamble to it? Yarmouth sounds OK as I am heading down past the needles, where in the harbour is the fuel dock? Also from memory Lymington have a fuel bearth that gets cheaper the more you buy, however not sure of the starting price

Also as we are heading to Cherbourg does anybody know if fuel is cheaper there?

Once again thanks for the help.

Yarmouth have a discount on 200+litres.
Go into the harbour, past all the mooring pontoons on right, there's a crane ahead of you (or was on Saturday) and the fuelling pontoon is to the right of that under the apex roof. all from memory, but Yarmouth is not that big and the berthing masters are very helpful

Ollie,

it'll take around 20 minutes to get there but with all the money you'll save (you'd better call'em first 01489 884081 to check the price) you can afford to have a nice lunch and a few bevvies at the Jolly Sailor pub opposite
have a good trip

Yarmouth's your best bet, Ollie. Straight in, straight out. You're passing anyway if you're going to Cherbourg.

If it's not too early, you might try a snifter in the King's Head

Good plan, tank full of unleaded and a belly full of beer, the perfect start to the perfect day!!

As far as I remember, each time we've refuelled at Hythe we've radioed them on approach and pretty much gone straight in (unless it's very busy, e.g. Summer weekends) and not waited more than a couple of minutes to get back out again. I'd have thought you'd be fine on a weekday.

We often refuel at Lymington Yacht Haven and it always used to be cheaper than Yarmouth (but I am going back a year or so now!). Not sure of the current price though (sorry!). You could try 'phoning them: 01590 677071

Have a good trip!

Might be a bit of a treck for some by Gosport Premier Marina sells it at cost. Was about 97p a litre last time I filled up. One of the cheapest around.

I filled up at Gosport on Saturday for 99p/litre. Still cheap compared to the Hamble. Might be worth setting up an up to date price comparrison on Ribnet as the savings can be huge.

If I lived on the South Coast I would be very tempted to make regular cruises to the Channel Islands.

I object enough to paying £0.91 per litre - there is no way I would pay those marina prices - jerry cans and a trolley for me.

Codders - thought you were clawing back the duty and VAt??. - why dont you take the boat out , clean it up for once and go to Tescos. Get an empty 55 gallon drum from your local garage and fill that up as well. After all ,the way things are going - it will soon be 2 quid a gallon. Anyway, whats 400 odd quid for a man of your means???

i agree Neil great idea if enough of us were filling up at the same place we might in a small way influence the prices they charge
why do these people charge so much?? is it the prices their having to pay for the stuff. i mean lets face it, they dont have to pay rent on an expensive forecourt and staff it for most of the day!!
