Spider cracks on the hull.
While a was cleaning my rib underneath the hull near the middle I noticed spider web like cracks which are very fine and is hard to see unless you look at it at a certain angle in the light. It's about 7.5 cm in diameter, I can feel it quite clearly with my fingers but its more like scratches than deep grooves. Is it just cosmetic and not anything to worry about ? I guess that it's hard not to make a hull without any marks or blemishes so am I being a bit picky. I thought that I would post on here first before contacting my dealer about it. Here's a couple of pics which are not very good but you can just make out where the cracks are. Looking with the naked eye they are a lot clearer and just like a spiders web.

id say its just gel coat cracking - this is often the result of movement, flex, or something pushing on the rear. the cracking is fine but i would like to know what has caused it. get onto lpb and see what they say - my guess is that its cracked where there is an internal rib within the hull stopping the hull from flexing at the same rate as the rest of it when it hits the water.

Me to am no expert on this but the gelcoat is like pot and the fibre glass flexes

Don't forget that the hull will have picked up any blemishes that were present on the mould. On my previous boat I had some radiating lines from a central point which appeared to be something to do with the release vent in the mould and not really a defect in the hull at all.

Spoke to Ian at LPB and that's more or less what he said, that the mould had a spider crack in it and that it will not spread as it is not a true crack but an image of a crack from the mould. So hopefully nothing to worry about, also it's underneath so I won't be looking at it.

i wouldent worry about it,
we had had a grp boat for over 30 years with some spider cracks under the hull and on the cabin sides ,they developed after about 6/7 years from new and never got any worse in all the time we had it ,
we had the osmosis police aound the yard giving out advising not saying that it doesent happen but i knew a few yachties thats had spider cracks and spent an awfull lot of money with the verdict it was osmosis when in most cases it wasent ,
if you dont have your boat permanantly afloat i wouldent be too fussed.

when cleaning my boat last weekend I also noticed some cracks in the hull - they go through a spray which seems not so best :-(
