'Spirit of Cardiff' Return Arrangements
Hello folks,
Thought I'd get in early.
Has any one made any arrangements for a welcome home RIB & SIB gathering yet?
Cheers

Keith,
You got too much spare time on your hands, but you are quick.
Bigger and better party!!!!
More boats.
More blue sky and sunshine!

Okay, despite several 'problems' SoC is well on it's way now and we can look forward to a triumphant return. We knew the start date at Cardiff so we could make arrangements to get down there for the weekend. With the return date not being set in stone this is more difficult to make arrangements for.
I am presuming that the record actually finishes in Gibraltar on whatever day of the week it happens to be. Does this mean that they will actually return to Cardiff on a weekend, or will they return on a weekday? Are there any arrangements in place at CBYC for use of the slip? Will PoB (jools) be there again? Will Bill have an engine for his Avon by then?
Help, Nadia, where are you?
Cheers

Nothing has been planned yet, but it is likely that the return to Cardiff will be on a weekend, and we'll probably have a week or so notice -- possibly longer.

Just a thought......
At the send off weekend (happy and painful memories), Bill and I had crew badges. Yes, this was a bit of a larrf, but it was also that people would know WHO we were. I met loads of people and it was often a bit difficult to tie the real names to the RIBNET and boat names. I know I met a few people who I couldn’t place!
An aside……
Geoff, we met on the pontoon, it was only some time later that inside my thick skull (proven by the resistance to impact on PoB) that I put the Geoff and Boatlaunch together. Well, I’m presuming it was one and the same.
Back to subject……
So how about me doing badges for us all in time for the return. I know that the PoB crowd eventually figured out who everyone was but there were others who did not stay with us. There will also be MORE RIBs and SIBs there for the return. The badge could state the forums name, real name and boat name. I’ll provide the laminated badges but you’ll have to provide your own badge holder (Staples have them).
By the way, I haven’t forgotten the certificates.

I think Badges are a great idea.
As you say you will need the persons's real name, Boat Name - would you need the Rib Net name as well to link up?
If you make them a little more 'generic', rather than SOC based, we could use them at any futre cruises / get togethers
Go for it
Graeme

Yup, I agree with that. I'll have a go this week and also on the 'certificates'.
I was hoping to get the 'SONAR' this month , however when my car was in for service it turned out that the cam belts were due for replacement! This of course is not cheap. I was tempted to skip it, but without the car I can't take the boat anywhere anyway.
Cheers

As a Cardiff resident I'm looking forward to the return of SoC.
Also as a future RIB buyer it will be great to see as many ribs in the bay as possible, hopefully it will give me some ideas as to what to look at.
As I need to convince my girlfriend of the benefits of a RIB I would be willing to donate £30 to the SoC in exchange for trip for us on anyones RIB to welcome the team home.
Let me know your thoughts
Mike

You are on you can have two hours in my Avon for 30 quid or an hour on our Ribtec. if you are interestec mail me
Keith( wind your neck in ) Hart I like the Photo..........Why don't you make badges and get Nadia to sell (2) I've goyt a neat Corel drrawer file of the boat if it will help them in aid of the fuel fund......cos I think unless they get some more money there may not be a welcome back party unless it's in the middle of the Pacific.
Any body else reading this send Nadia any money raising ideas you might have.
Cheers
Look forward to meeting you in Cardiff

Guys,
The media could offer a much appreciated contribution for the SoC. Did anyone of you make a call to the CNN ? They have a programm on Saturdays (I think) called "Inside sailing" or something like that. Main theme are sailing boats of course, but you don't find a multi record breaker every day

Hi all,
Welcome back party - nothing decided yet.
Crew needs to decide what they want to do, and will not really say any more till after they get to the east coast of the USA - sorry.
