Spirit of Cardiff Send-off Event

Crikey, I can hardly believe that it is almost 21 years since Alan Priddy and crew set off in Spirit of Cardiff, from Cardiff Bay Marina, in April 2000!

Some here may remember that a send off was organised through RibNet, some still here may even have been there. I was, in my little 'Quicksilver' and I felt rather small among all the RIBs.

I can remember that someone with a connection to the Sea Cadets in Bristol arranged for them to go down to Cardiff in their ex-Royal Nave training ship to use it as a base. Quite a few of us stayed overnight on-board, which was a fantastic thrill. So, thanks to whoever that was.

Whilst searching through the depth of the dungeon here at Castle Hart I came across a VHS tape (remember those) marked: Spirit of Cardiff Send Off. Intrigued I get our VHS player out of mothballs and connected it to my computer. With a little bit of editing here is the result, well part 1 anyway.

Well, my memories of the specifics of the event have faded somewhat, but others here may remember details.

Please take a look and if you can put names to any of the faces please do.

I'm sorry but I can't remember who shot the video, so I can't credit them for it. If you know, then please let us all know. Remember this is the days before Go-Pros, and they did a great job, whoever it was.

This is brilliant, we werent there, but it really gives a good idea the great send off that was given, supported by some good (then and now) music. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting - a very rare sighting of a Cowes Marine International TomKat RIB around 5:17 as well!
