Thanks John

Our size is:-

Length - 24m
Beam - 6.4m
Draft 2.4m (but we like 2.7 to be on the safe side!)

Last time I went in was before the Barrage and the lock keepers eyes popped out when we pulled into the marina lock! I think he was used to looking down into the lock, and for once he was looking up!

Last time we tied up along "Town Quay Pontoon" - looking at the plan at

Spirit send off

Forget the town quay pontoon, there isnt one!
You will be able to get into Penarth Marina no problem and I will proberbly make arrangments for you to berth outside our exibition centre just in case someone else's plan goes wrong. I am a firm beliver in catering for sod's law which is proberblt the best thing to do at this moment in time.

Back to the top with this thread.

Shall I have the honour of .....counting down!!!

8.5 days to go before the 31st March

Did I say days?
Have no fear, I meant 8.5 weeks!!!

Almost had a heart attack myself there.

61 days...that sounds like ages away though. I will count in weeks untill the final month.

The only way is up. - to the top of the page!

Just under 8.5 weeks to go now.

How come people are not on here more often?

We are almost at the 1000 views stage - is that a record in itself?

Cheers

Well folks,

Here I am again...
Alan P,
Do you plan to cross Med ? Cause if you do tell me when are you going to catch Pireas, Greece, or any marina near that.
As you realize it is rather inpossible for me to be there on the 31 of March.
Any ways accept all my best wishes for a successful journey.
From nearly frozen (25 days ago, and 22 Celcius today) Athens.

Michael

Hey, in half an hour it will be 8 weeks before the send off.

I hope everyone is okay, do you lot not go on this during the week-end ? I know, sad girl, on a Saturday night at that.

I have been reading all the msgs, about peoples' plans for comming to Cardiff for the send-off. I think John K will be putting something out shortly anyway.....so.....once you know when, how and for how long you are staying, let me know? And the size of yours ( boat)!

Hope the weather has been kind to you and not blown or washed you away.

Here's the press release . . .

After two years of preparations and thousands of miles of sea trials, the Spirit of Cardiff crew will set off from Cardiff to go round the world in their RIB on Sunday 31 March at midday. All supporters, with or without boats, are invited to join Alan Priddy, Jan Falkowski, Steve Lloyd and Clive Tully in Cardiff for a leaving party on Saturday 30 March.

The party will be in the Waterguard pub on Harbour Drive, next to the Spirit of Cardiff visitor centre, where the bar staff are concocting an exclusive Spirit of Cardiff cocktail for the occasion! The evening will be rounded off with a spectacular firework display across Roath Basin.

On Sunday a flotilla of RIBs will escort Spirit out of Cardiff Bay, through the barrage, and see the team on their way down the Bristol Channel towards their first stop in Gibraltar. Arrangements have been made for slipping, trailer parking and berthing for anyone who wants to bring their boat and join in. Alternatively there may be crew places available on some of the other RIBs.

Nadia Lehmann is coordinating the day's events in Cardiff. Please let her know if you would like to come (or even if you're just thinking about it) so that she can make sure that there is space for everyone. Either email nadia@spirit-of-cardiff.com or call 07811 553925

There is no organised cruise as such, but there will be opportunities to team up with other ribsters and explore Cardiff Bay and the local area. If you are interested in getting together over the weekend, email Alan Winnett at cruising@biboa.co.uk or post a message on the RIBnet forum at www.rib.net/forum/

You can find out more about the Spirit of Cardiff project on the web site at www.spirit-of-cardiff.com or register for regular email newsletters by sending an email to newsletter-subscribe@mlm.spirit-of-cardiff.com

If you are in a position to offer any financial support as well as moral support, that would be great too. Supporters are invited to sponsor individual miles of the voyage for just £5 a mile -- for which you will receive a personalised certificate and the team's undying gratitude! Cheques payable to "Offshore Expeditions Ltd" can be sent to Nadia Lehmann, Spirit of Cardiff Buy a Mile, PO Box 401, Cardiff CF11 7WP or you can call Nadia with a credit card number.

For corporate supporters there is also the opportunity to sponsor an entire leg of the voyage for as little as £5000. Full details of what's on offer are available from Sophie Brading on 029 2069 2262 or email sophie@spirit-of-cardiff.com
