Not sure of the details yet, but I am definitely coming over on the Saturday with Peter Giovanoli and probably Ralph Carson. We will probably come over by ferry with the rib(s) on a trailer. I'll give you an update later in the week...

Between Malta and Port Said is a long way from me indeed. My thoughts will be near you as well as my voice if you are equiped with a HF tranceiver. Just tell me the frequency and I 'll be there. I can't recommend neither the VHF band nor the marine VHF because of the short range of coverage. With the HF me and some good friends of mine, can escort you all the way from Cardiff to Indian Ocean (say the least), via our microphones.

The girl came out of the water today...due to get herself all done up for the big trip. She is in the good hands of Alan P. - who is slaving away and tending to her every needs as I write this.

How many days...?

as of 00:01 - in a little while - it will be 54 days...who's counting!

I am...wait till I start counting the hours and minutes.

Come on. Get your bags packed and head to Cardiff.

She is all alone tonight, in her new home for the next few weeks ; Alan P. has totally stripped her! and then left her alone to drive back home!

He even let the TV camera take footage of her while in her bare state!

How many more days? One less than yesterday.

Back to the top...approaching the 1500 view mark, she is a popular girl.

Page TWO in the local paper last night - it is an afternoon edition, nothing to do with darkness!

Point of Departure

I'm sure this must have bee mentioned before, but I cant see it so I thought would ask the quetion, where exactly is Spirit departing from? (I know it's Cardiff - but not the exact Marina/Quay/Dock or whatever.

The current plan is for Spirit to be on show in Roath Basin on Saturday, and then move to Mermaid Quay early on Sunday morning.

The actual departure point will be the Cardiff Bay Barrage as the boat locks out into the Bristol Channel.

Add my two pennies worth

Departure Oval Basin rather than Mermaid Quay. They are next to each other and we will set up some pontoons by the Oval Basin for the SOC and supporters boats / ribs.

I think I am right in saying that the clock will begin when SOC exits the Barrage locks.

Mermaid Quay/Oval Basin

Well, if you're going to be picky, shouldn't that be the Roald Dahl Basin?

Or pehaps not quite correct as usual.

As any Welsh speaker amongst us will know - the correct title for the place is the "Roald Dahl Plass".

It's me again - the champion longest ever thread starter.....

Can we please have a streetmap.co.uk reference and/or a gps reference for the slip where we are meeting for the send off.

By the way those who know this info should send details off to boatlaunch.co.uk (best boating site on the net, along with ribnet of course).

Cheers

Keith (gets lost easily) Hart

I am sure Alan P and John K will correct me if I am wrong, they are both online as I write this...the send off will be from the specially "put down for us" pontoons just off the Oval Basin / Roald Dahl Basin to some of us. The time of the wave off will be 12 noon, then the SOC and all the escorting boats, including any media on boats, will make their way to the Barrage locks for the 12:30 lock out.

The Barrage locks out on the half and full hour and locks in on the quarter to and quarter past the hour, for any boats that are following SOC partly down the Bristol Channel and then returning to the Bay for another night in Cardiff or back to home by road.

More than likely two locks will be in operation then, will try and get as many boats into the one lock and also use the other one.
Both are 8 metres wide and 40 metres long.

High water that day is 09:46 at13.2 and low water at 15:54 at0.1 metres. These times take into account the clocks going back one hour that morning - so one less hour sleep for everyone.

I will be putting together an info pack which I can snail mail to all interested, addresses needed.

As mentioned before looks like we will use Penarth Marina as a base for visiting boats, including the P of B. By the way, Jools, Town Quay in the Marina is vacant, and I have enquired as to whether you would be able to berth there as before - no problem.
The good thing about the Marina is that it is 24 hrs!! and hassle free. Although they do not have a slipway, they are happy to hoist boats in. If that is a problem for anyone, let me know and I will have a rethink. Will have a plan B anyway.
More news soon....any comments?

Here is a "Streetmap" of Cardiff Bay - I'm not sure where the slips are!

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap...=173500&zoom=3

Penath Marina is at the bottom of the map - to the left of the Barrage.

The Pride of Bristol is planned to be in the connecting section between the 2 basins

Roath Basin is at the top of the map - its not labled, but has a blue No. 4 in it! - The Visitors center (and the pub I think!) is next to this

Here's a link to the marina - with more maps!

This is all heading for confusion....
I will post an itenary here with contact mobile numbers, meeting places, times etc.
Wll I need is :
What day you are arriving in Cardiff? Boat ? Details of boat. Via water / road?
What day you are leaving? Mobile number? How many people?

Is that fair?
I know there is alot happening at the moment...but I am in contact with many people at the moment and would like to get a plan together (get on with it, I hear you say), post info on one page and that's it.

As Alan P said many posts ago: all you need to do is get the time off and come to Cardiff.

Is this okay with everyone?

The SOC was in the paper again today - boy, she is getting hot over here, but has yet to make page 1 - don't worry it won't be long!!!

Hope I have not upset any one with my last post...it is all rather quiet again.

As requested, will see if I can scan in some of the press articles for you all to have a look at.

(this has got to be my fav smiley)
