sr4 standard shaft or longshaft

hi just bought a sr4 and looking for a 40hp or 50hp with a tiller to go on it , there seems to be quite a few ex RNLI 40hp standard shaft engines around , could i use a standard shaft outboard on this rib or have i got to use a longshaft.
also do the RNLI use longshaft engines 40hp or 50hp with a tiller on any ribs , thanks in advance for your replies.

The rnli use tiller steer on their smaller s.i.bs up to 50 hp engines ,the larger atlantic classes 21 ,,75 and 85 are r.i.b.s and are wheel steered .with exception to the arancia r.i.b which is tiller steered thats used by the beach lifeguards .

And be careful on the Ex RNLI engines as most of the newer 40hp and 50hp are whats called a MSL which are modified to fit the D class/IB1 and the leg length is 17.5" so they are neither long or short!

Sr 4.0

Having recently re engined my searider and happy with the outcome, go to the max
put on a 50 hp, Long shaft and remote steer, much more fun, also you really want
to keep the weight up at the pointy end. With me and the YL in the porno seats
we still need to wait 20 seconds for the nose to drop after applying WOT :-)

Happy re engining

You got it!, you can see in the photo the extra 2.5" addition!, above the gearbox under the extra splash plate.
