SR5.4 - Mounting Yamaha 704 Binnical

I got a Yamaha 704 top mount binnacle with my "new" engine. I guess I could try to swap or sell and then buy a 703 side mount.

Anyone built a bracket or fabricated something to use the 704 controls on a SR5.4 with the standard jockey console? Pictures? Looks like the side mount controls are more expensive for some reason. Thx

I fabricated a mount for a honda top mount binnacle on my old rib that didn't have space on the console. I'll see if I can dig up a picture. I have the old honda side mount control if that would work.

Thanks Jason.

Actually, just talked to local shop and they said that they'd swap it out, no charge.

That's easy. I can't seem to find any pictures of the old boat anyway.

Thanks Tim&linda - that was exactly my idea but I hadn't seen pictures of it done. Now with the offer of a swap, I'll do that instead of spending a day cutting ply, glassing, and gelling.

Good move

If I am reading this correctly then you are swapping for a 703. Excellent move as the 704 doesn't have an interlock and that's an important thing to have on a max powered RIB

Yes, they said they'd swap out the top mount for the side mount controls. I'll still need to fab a bracket or spacer of some kind to get it to clear the steering wheel but it should be easier.

Planning on hanging the new engine this weekend.

"interlock"???

Why would one have it and not the other? (703 versus 704)

Why not try and swap it for a 705? Hidden cables with neutral lock and integral kill switch!

Yamaha 705

So, the shop said they'd swap the 704 for the 703 but never checked to see if they had a used one sitting around. Buy and sell on eBay will cost me a bit...

The 705 looks pretty....and pricey!
