SR5.4m Steering and Control lengths
I just search a whole bunch of terms and couldn't come up with the answer (and was quite surprised someone else hasn't asked the question before on the forum)
Standard SR5.4 jockey set-up:
1. Length of the Morse cables for throttle and shifting? (the set of controls I have came with 18 ft. cables - I roughly measured and am guessing ~14ft cables are needed).
2. Steering? If I'm not going hydraulic, is "No Feedback 4.2 Rotary System" from Teleflex what I need? They offer 13, 14, and 15 ft.
Thanks!

FURTHERMORE: Teleflex makes a bunch of different mechanical sterring systems. I know that I need a no feedback (NFB) styem. What's the difference between the rack, the rotary, the HPS, the Safe-T, the extreme? Nowhere on their site do they do a comparison chart!

Anyone?
How about an approximate cable length? Is 14 ft reasonable?

I honestly don't know! Thing is, it varies on where your console is placed-depending on which original console, the placement of the console can vary by a foot or so back or forwards.
The original 2 man (looks like a 3 man) is quite a bit shorter than the original 3 man (which is enormous) and the placement of the 2 man can be anywhere on the raised mount.

Stock US Navy set-up but who know exactly what that means.
In other words, I need to run a cable with the right stiffness and radius of bends and see where I come out...I just want to avoid returning the whole thing since I will be buying online (since it's $50 less).
Thanks!

I'd pay the extra $50. 'Stock' British navy setups vary!

On my last rib I just used a tape measure and avoided tight bends and it came out fine. Im actually getting rid of my cable steering system on my rib in a few weeks if you were interested in a used setup for cheap.

Off your latest "new" boat? The grey/red zodiac with the Honda? Part of me says that it's just going to be easier going to west Marine so that I return it if doesn't quite fit right...but let me know how long your cable is!!!
I've pretty much decided against hydraulic for this small of an engine. You switching to hydraulic?

I will measure it out and let you know asap. This is off the SRMN 600 I picked up in San Diego a few months ago. Switching to hydraulic once I get the new motor on. I think it should fit your SR5.4, this Srmn 600 is longer but the console is mounted toward the middle of the boat. You can have the steering setup for free since you helped me find that console, just pay shipping.

Thanks - let me know when you pull it and measure the cable lengths. I'm not in a rush - I don't think that I'll have time to work on it this weekend.

Distance from my transom to the steering wheel is 6.5 feet. The steering cable is 11 feet. Might be a bit short? After taking measurements I just realized how far back my console is mounted.

Yey, sounds short.
I measured: height of console, back to starboard side of transom, to center of engine at ~14 ft. I might just have to go by and measure again to be a little more exact. I'd bet I could always just buy a new cable of right length since 11 ft will definitely be too short.
Thanks!!!

Get a bit of stiff garden hose. Thread it along the route your cable will follow. avoid sharp bends. Make sure that engine is in far port and starboard positions. Mark cable. Remove measure.

Good advice Doug.
Thats right, those Searider consoles are mounted way up front. How about we make this easier for both of us and just trade boats. This way you don't have to go to West Marine, and I get to feed into my Searider fetish.

I need 12ft cables on my SR4, I originally thought 10ft would do the job from my measurements but was advised to go longer which proved to be the right way to go, console is as far forward as it can go but still leaving some room to stand at the bow. I've bay star hydraulic steering, it excellent but not as fast turning as sea star which is no bad thing, no-feedback steering is good but don't discount the bay star kit
